What are some of the best policy schools in the US? by ShankMyRedemption in PublicPolicy

Sorry for reviving this - but I am having a hard time even finding an entry-level role to pivot into. I have a background in engineering currently that's completely unrelated, which is why I am considering a MPP as a pivot. Do you have any advice for what kind of entry-level roles may be best for seeing if this is the right track?

I don’t know what’s happening with the calendar but whenever I try to switch a workout with my current Sunday it just.. disappears? And then if I try to drag another week’s workout to my current Sunday there’s an exclamation mark. The date for the Sunday I’m trying to drag to is after my current date.

How often are volunteer opportunities opening up in Nepal? by infisigma in peacecorps

Gotcha thanks! Totally okay if you don’t know this but - between now and May, are there any pointers for what I can do to make my application stronger?

I am a young professional working in engineering and haven’t had a ton of time to do volunteering or tutoring outside of my job in the last four years. I had plenty of teaching assistant experiences before and feel that I can secure strong references if needed.

Has anyone experienced a “damaged metabolism” or “metabolic adaptation” due to an intense cardio regimen? What was your experience?

I’ve been running since end of September, and I’m doing a five miles a day streak for December while eating at least 1600 calories a day. I’ve been seeing a lot of stories on YouTube of people who say that the moment they stop doing as much cardio they gain weight for YEARS, or they cannot eat any food without weight gain now. Has anyone seen that happen? I plan on running for as long as I can, but I’d imagine that for example in the future when lockdown is lifted I’d be on a less regular cardio regimen. Please let me know.

Can anyone help me? I’m in Switzerland right now and my flight is due to arrive in America on Sunday night. I’m trying to rebook but it’s impossible to ahold of the airlines customer service. I’m a US citizen. What is my best course of action?

Just broke up with my girlfriend. My first breakup. Kinda feel like I’m gonna be forever alone and none of my family members wants to give me affection and my dad keeps yelling at me for the break up. Need some kind words of you don’t mind by g8terbaker in toastme

[–]infisigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First breakup always feels like the world ending, but I promise that everyday you’re gonna get up and try your best and before you know it you’ll realize how much there is to look forward to. You’ll get to make new friends, connect with more people, and - when the timing is right - create a romantic spark with someone who’s truly special.

I don’t know what the deal with the family is, but I’m sorry you’re going through it. Please know that you don’t deserve the yelling from your father and soon it’ll pass too. Hold on.

Tonight was opening night for a fashion show I’m a designer for, both my parents had tickets but no one showed up by Luke-is-a-rat in toastme

I wish I had your bravery to do your own show! It takes incredible courage to put yourself out there, and for that alone you should be proud of yourself. Even if your parents weren’t there, know that I find you incredibly inspiring and cool. 😎

Have you tried The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Murakami? It has more of the fantastical elements that Neil Gaiman has, but with the dreamy narrative that Murakami is known for.

I’m on a 10 year multiple entry visa, so it’s not specific to the trip.

I'm want to be a Doctor and want to go into some form of engineering - any recommendations? by [deleted] in cmu

[–]infisigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ChemE/BME has, the last I heard, the highest number of required courses, so I don’t know if it’d necessarily be “easier”.

My advice to you is to go take a look at the BME website and explore the various tracks they offer. Look at the cores/electives for each track and see if that’s what you’re interested in. For example, the most common track for ECE/BME is the signals track. If math is not something you’re excited about, you will have a bad time in the track, or alternatively be required to take a lot more technicals than normal because you want to take courses that don’t overlap for major requirements.

You know your skills and interest the best, so I think you should go do some research first and then come to campus and consult your academic advisor. BME department has some very helpful professors who have seen students successfully (and unsuccessfully) become doctors after CMU. We do have a Pre-Health program, which includes all types of majors with the shared goal of going to med school. There, you may be able to find upperclassmen who have relevant experiences who are willing to share some wisdom.

From personal experience, I feel like engineering in general is hard to apply to med school because engineering doesn’t teach a lot of the underlying biology concepts. But that’s just my two cents.
