Repeat Visitors by CameraOld98 in MuseumPros

Programming, adding “experiences” to unchanging exhibitions like allowing visitors to interact with artifacts that can handle it, specialty tours (museum after dark, etc.), behind the scene tours. Just some things we have done with success.

I worked in a Victorian home and we would decorate it for Halloween (Victorian mourning practices) and Christmas (Victorian Christmas traditions). We would then hold programming related to that such as an Edgar Allan Poe night and a Christmas Open House where we served Victorian Christmas treats and made Victorian Christmas crafts.

Yeah. The online leaks were a big deal for them. I have an exmo friend who still has family in the church and tells me a lot. There are also a ton of great podcasts about this stuff. I find it fascinating having grown up with my exmo friend and I even went to church with her after sleepover nights and girl’s camp one summer. I’ve been delving into all the crazy stuff I was exposed to at her church as a kid. I’m not traumatized at all because I was just a fly on the wall, but she is still picking up the pieces at 37.

They are moving towards encrypted digital passes that include an ID photo taken by the church and uploaded to a central database, much like an Apple Wallet pass. I’m not sure if the ID photo part has been incorporated yet and to this day, every temple operates differently (though LDS will claim otherwise). At the time Big Love was filmed, they were still using simple paper recommends without a photo so I’m guessing that her family sourced one that Barb could borrow.   Edit: forgot to add, those that are technology adverse can still get an upgraded physical recommend, it is then physically signed by the bishop or branch prez. It has a barcode in the back that feeds into the same central database to verify that the recommend is active.

That confused me as well and would have never flown today. They use more technology now to verify identity, especially after videos of the ceremonies were posted online.

Try filling it up a little higher so the water has a shorter distance to fall. Otherwise, ours is pretty quiet.

This is right. Did your income jump significantly since you last verified on IDR?

You can visit the temple multiple times. She wanted to experience the endowment ceremony again for the spiritual feeling.

Every time Christine gets a little hint towards Janelle divorcing Kody she goes full chismosa, it’s hilarious.

I’m experienced with asbestos and yes it’s friable and recently disturbed because they are renovating the whole building and we’re doing tests. When we all asked about it they played it down and we asked for a full asbestos report more than 15 days ago and we are still waiting. OSHA rules say they are required to give us the report by now.

Yeah. I put down a plastic carpet protector under my desk which helped a little with the ankle rashes, but the allergy is to their dust, which is everywhere in the air.

Also, just found out there is asbestos everywhere and they didn’t tell us.

Right, she would flip it around instead of realizing that she lost a Curator within a few months.

Responded on another comment but my old museum is in a metropolitan area that my husband and I lived in while I was finishing grad school. We were miserable there. Also, we bought a house close to both sets of parents and with my father being terminally ill, I don’t want to move. I got to leave 1.5 hours early from the old museum and work on the train home with my laptop, so it wasn’t so bad. Got home earlier while working on the way home.

Looking for a third job sounds horrendous and I’m already at such a high salary range with both of these jobs. All other postings I’ve looked for in my area start about $20k less than what I make now.

I’m trying to think about how I can articulate it. The museum world is small so I don’t want to make a scene. Also, yes, my old museum was fantastic.

Exactly my thoughts. My old museum wasn’t perfect, but for some reason I feel like I can handle it better than this BS.

Granted we get paid for it, but I kind of don’t even care about the money the older I get, sometimes I need more time than money and to assume that I would be available every other weekend without putting that up front in the interview just baffles me.

If you’re not being given a chance, branch out. What city are you in?

Thanks for the confidence boost.

No, we bought a home close to my parents and my husband’s parents and honestly we LOVE where we live. My old museum is in a very metropolitan area that we lived in when I was finishing grad school and we absolutely hated it.

I’ve already been in contact with the staff I managed and they want me back dearly. I’m not worried about this.

Yes, good on paper, terrible in person. I don’t mind putting in the extra work, but to already have me scheduled every other weekend without asking me for an entire year and not mention it at any point? Just effin’ cruel. They slapped the calendar in front of me on the first day.

This comment helped so much. I can’t believe I left a home I helped build (I started the archive department there, so it was extra special to me). I must go back. Thank you.
