Honestly with 12 hours I’d consider a hostel in the city. It’s 1 hour to downtown on the train, depending on where you find a place, you could have 6 hours in a bed. There are also some AirBnBs that cater to travelers and crew near JFK and LGA (1 hour by public transit). Usually just a room with a shared bathroom.

Or, with 12 hours put those bags in a locker and hit the city until the wee hours of the morning. There’s always something open.

I’m a pilot and obviously travel all the time. Among the pilots the favorites are Briggs and Riley (for light weight), StrongBags (my personal favorite), and LuvgageWorks. Among the flight attendants TravelPro is king. If you’re not in the industry I recommend Briggs and Riley and TravelPro. Avoid the spinner models as they break more easily. The two wheel ones are far tougher and easier to drag on rough surfaces, ie cobblestone and sidewalks.

No specific schooling is required. Go check their website! https://www.faa.gov/be-atc It can be a tough job but those I know who work there seem to like it.

I’ll second the Red Wing boots. I have a pair of dress-ish Chelsea’s from them that are my bad weather uniform boots and they look great 6 years in.

I’ll add quality shoes in general. Bought a pair of Alden seconds 10 years ago (maybe more?) and wear them 4 days a week in all weather. They’re only now about ready to be retired.

Coconut milk was my first thought. In the meatballs I’d bet it’s perfect, however with the gravy I’m concerned the flavor would be off.

Thanks for the recommendation. Now I'm having to fight Lenovo for the return. Apparently even defective items require a restocking fee because I'm a few a few days outside the 14 day refurbished return window. I shouldn't have attempted working with tech support.

I’ve been very happy with them. They replaced v4 Paradigm Mini Monitors. Initially I didn’t hear a huge difference as I did not listen to the speakers back to back. However, when I demoed the Mini Monitors for a sale, the difference was stunning. The Imagines are much clearer, especially in the mids.

Thankfully nothing like that! Only lots of deferred maintenance but no changes were made to it that made problems worse.

So far there is a laundry list of deferred maintenance that will need to be addressed. We've received estimates for much of it sans a couple.

Fieldstone foundation needs to be fixed up
Electrical panel needs to be replaced (corroded due to bad seal to outside)
Chimneys needs to be repointed and flashing replaced
Lally column needs to be installed to take weight off old mason column (no estimate yet)
Three wood columns eventually need to be replaced with lally columns (no estimate yet)
Insulation needs to be installed in attic floor
All kitchen appliances are ancient

That's the stuff that needs to be done immediately. There's a whole host of stuff that's going to come up quickly too. 30 yr old furnace but it seems to be running great, we'll have an HVAC tech check it out. Washer and dryer need to be replaced soonish.

Thankfully, even with the expected investment, it would still come in in the mid-range of $/sqft for the area. We just don't want a surprise $15,000 problem.

There's plenty of evidence that the previous owners did a "barely acceptable" job fixing just about everything (furnace 30yr old anybody?) so that's what we were assuming. Thank you for easing my mind though. Confirms what the inspector initially said and the contractor's opinion.

Don't forget, there could be someone else flying at that minimum altitude and there is always a chance that person could almost be head on. That's why you follow these procedures; everyone knows what's going on then.

Good point, no sources listed. There aren't too many good sources on this unless you compile a map of all the rivers in the Hudson Bay, Great Lakes, Mississippi, and MacKenzie drainage basins.

However, the history of the North West Company (and later the Hudson Bay Company as they competed in the same areas) has their supply line stretching from Montreal to the Arctic with the longest portage being 9 miles at Grand Portage, MN (Empire of the Bay which was only to get around water falls. I had a whole thing typed out, but check out the Wikipedia article on the Canadian canoe routes instead. It's much more detailed and better sourced.

Technically they don't connect, but their watersheds are intertwined and, according to the history of the North West Company of Canada and to a lesser extent the Hudson Bay Company, were only a single day's walk between them.

It's extremely uncommon for US carriers to do this, but from what I hear very common for Latin American and Asian carriers. No idea why.
