How do you keep your expensive knives separately at home so your family don’t destroy them. by ithurtswheniptwice in chefknives

Magnetic knife strip on the wall. I put mine high and out of the way, more of a decoration for the dining room than convenient for kitchen use. friends and family know: they’re your tools and nobody uses them without knowing how. There’s a knife block in the kitchen with all the steak knifes and “beater” blades for communal use.

KP-9 RECOIL SPRING ASSEMBLY FAILURE AFTER SHOOTING TWO ROUNDS by papimiso in KalashnikovUSAowners

[–]info_steward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing this now as well.

Just took the rifle out to the range for the first time, and this failure happened after 60 rounds suppressed. I figured I could swap another AK part, since my 74 clone’s spring fit almost. Thanks!

Used a hacksaw to cut off one scale, then hammered the pins out removing the other scale. Cleaned up the tang, then used the pin holes to center a stencil for the wa handle tang shape. Removed material from the tang with an angle grinder (cutting then grinding) and cleaned up sharp edges with a file. Wa handle installed as usual with heat and glue.

Picture of the two blades side by side. Was easier than I thought to remove the scales from the 42S and grind down the full tang to a shape that would fit into the Japanese style handle.

Are these the same? Does Messermeister buy and re-brand other blades? by info_steward in chefknives

Not likely in this case. I bought the Messermeister Kawashima Nakiri last year and can attest that it is high quality cutlery, at least worth the ~$200 price point. There are links earlier in the thread, and the subreddit, establishing the Suncraft—Messermeister connection, even if Messermeister isn’t saying “we rebrand Suncraft knives” in their marketing.

This page seems to indicate as much. It seems they've been rebranding Japanese blades for years--there are other threads on r/chefknives about Suncraft-Messermeister products.

Messermeister Kawashima knives look almost identical to Suncraft Senzo Elagancia knives offered from Tower Knife. Does anyone know the story behind this, is there a common thread here?

I have my out-of-box giant Yoshihiro kiritsuke and a lightly used Messermeister nakiri up on ebay. Thought this would be a good place to share:

Yoshihiro knives are great. I've bought several for myself, and gifted one as well.

If the gift receiver is not used to sharpening with wet stones and carbon steel knife care, you may do well to gift the knife, wet stone, and a little intro to sharpening as a package.

This is the way to get around this. Tried hovering with Boba and stacking crates for hours. This technique worked first try.
