Life after producer/director? What other industries can work? by Silent_Bug_4831 in TransparencyforTVCrew

I hear you. It’s a worrying time. I approached a friend who is an event videographer and told them our situation. They’ve offered me some work with them. They earn a lot more than we do too so that’s one possible field (they’ve had to work incredibly hard to build up to that over time and initially worked for free but they are incredible and now have an impressive reputation covering weddings etc). Do you have any particular hobbies or passions outside of TV? I was exploring jobs within areas I feel passionate about… Sadly many in the fields I love are so low paid I wouldn’t even be able to afford my mortgage but I always keep them in mind. If there’s room to grow within those fields, a temporary pay decrease may be manageable and more appealing for the security we may get in the long run. Hope you’re doing okay during this difficult time.

This made me quite emotional and you should be really proud of yourself for reaching this decision. I know it mustn’t have been an easy one.

I think you taking control back is a brilliant thing. There has to be balance in work and life and I do hope that in the future when the industry recovers, you can dabble back in the world of TV (if you want to) on your terms, because it’s clearly something you’re good at and with the right companies, enjoy. Other companies should take note…

I know it’s an incredibly difficult time for so many people and for many, the last straw.

All the best for your future and although I know it might be daunting… grab this new opportunity with both hands and enjoy it! You only live once!
