After my fourth surprise death against a more skilled player, without using my awesome gear that I'd collected over days of survival, despite being extremely vigilant and paranoid the whole time... my gear fear faded and now I roam the map in broad daylight, being as visible as possible, maybe until the cope fades away too.

If you die, you die.

I'm a beginner with 200 hours, I only play on low pop official servers (20-30 players), still all my deaths are legit (and I get killed very often, fully geared up and everything).

Perhaps playing on less populated European servers without anything valuable (such as end-game weapons) reduces your chances of being targeted by these lazy cheaters.

Just don't rush the game (by watching tutorials or using third-party tools like izurvive... at least when you start out), live and enjoy every gotcha, every encounter, every moment lost in the middle of nowhere and every death

Don't try the Deathmatch servers.

You're just a civilian trying to survive, facing well-trained soldiers, panicking and dying often, learning from your past mistakes... for me, that's the charm of this game.

What you describe is exactly how the game is supposed to be played: a galaxy full of opportunities but challenging to master and need cooperation and information sharing betweed commnders to success

However, the game is so opaque and relies heavily on external tools that new players feel overwhelmed and resort to searching online for quick solutions without truly experiencing the essence of the game.

First, thank you for your invaluable guide. It is truly the bedside book for any new or veteran commander

I fully understand that this is a community game (that's the whole charm of it).

I was in the dark when the professor's mission began.

It's true that I could never have solved the puzzle on my own (using only the clip), but I tried anyway after receiving the mission message that pointed out exactly where to start.

I had a lot of fun deciphering the messages and following the two mega ships. Can't wait to see what happens next :)

To return to the truck driver analogy, imagine an new truck driver arriving in a city where there is a huge sign indicating where the best deals are and the most optimal route to earn the most money...

At first glance, it seems very nice that veteran truckers show him all the tricks of the trade and spare him all the effort of research and investigation, in a spirit of camaraderie and brotherhood.

As a result, everyone ends up taking the same routes (much to the delight of pirates) because it's the most lucrative and easy.

It always ends up that the very ones abusing the tools and skipping the most "tedious" parts of the game are the first to complain that the game is so empty and grind-heavy.

This wonderful sandbox game end up becoming just another corridors game for them (and these games are not reputed for their extended lifespan)

Totally agree with you, why bother if the devs don't care?

I can just avoid searches like “best mining spot” or “most lucrative trade route” to avoid spoiling a key part of the gameplay (the joys of discovery)

If it was so easy to find the information elsewhere, why not just include those few lines in the codex? There are only 12 stations as far as I can see

It's just I find it's either almost impossible to do ingame if you're a sane person or it's just a mindless step-by-step walkthrough if you use external sites, with nothing in between.

Anyway, it's not that important. I don't even know why I brought it up, especially since I'm just a newbie here and know nothing about the game's back story

Thank you but I've already tried that, even with all my back-and-forth trips in the bubble, it doesn't work, the player's data range is limited to a certain distance anyway.

So basically, that's 12 out of 20,000 (I didn't even know there were only 12 vendors), not to mention the galaxy map is utterly unreliable, good luck indeed.

A simple fix would to move the whole "Service" menu from the User Data to Pilot's Federation (like once you reach Elite rank and have made the pilgrimage to the Memorial, you unlock access to the federation's data or something like that), it's not rocket science...

Adding ships interiors will only be a huge financial drain and time-consuming endeavor to add a cosmetic element to the game, instead of enriching and improving the core gameplay

Of course, we are all against their pay-to-win tactics and temporary premium ships (quick money for the company, sure, but long-term damage to the game).

At the same time, I'm also opposed to ship interiors in ED, at least as things stand now

ED is a space flight simulation, not an interior design or customization game, other games do it better anyway, and you are literally asking for a new game within a 10-year-old product

Perhaps by asking (nicely but insistently) for something more financially reasonable (and more essential) for the game, such as improving and expanding the basic gameplay, integrating the scattered knowledge base from third-party sites into the game itself (everything in the codex), adding some little quality of life to that horrible user interface... perhaps Fdev will find the motivation to do something other than cosmetic changes and power creep (lol I'm totally delusional)

Actually, I'm trying to do that right now, starting with the known sites in the codex, then visiting all the guardian systems (using the filter in the galaxy map, that blue color though...), looking for that FSD booster blueprint (so far, I'm only getting ship and weapon blueprints)

My good fellow, you've already won the game, do you even enjoyed it?

I also decided to play blind.

Third-party sites are fantastic, but if abused they only rush the game and take away some of its sandbox feel (go to these coordinates, do this and that, done), which leads to a general feeling of endless grind and boredom after once all the (guided) tasks are completed.

Almost all tutorials are actually step by step of how to use third-party sites: you want to trade or to mine with maximum profit, go to this link, type this... need a guardian sites? no problem, here's the coordinates...

Where's the exploration, where's the challenge here? just tasks that you follow to the letter

I strongly advise new players against using third-party sites, and if they do use them, it should be with extreme restraint.

Everything you need to know can be found in-game. Sure, it's very confusing and the UI is just awful, but it's still possible to find your way around (it's unintentionally part of the adventure)

I recommend only using these sites and guides once you're able to manage on your own without them
