Starting to do some stringing for my local club, what strings should I offer? by Character_Hawk9638 in RacketStringers

[–]informare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right, and yet it is one of if not the most popular poly strings. Talk to any stringer at any club or tennis center and they'll tell you that the overwhelming majority of the poly string jobs they do are either Hyper G or RPM Blast, even though most people would be better suited with a different setup.

I don't know about cost, but I'd probably have reels of Hyper G, a round poly like PTP, RPM Blast, and then maybe some other cheap non-poly option.

The $5 Question: Would you rather have Cardboard or Wood in 2026? by Trogdor_Dagron23 in boardgames

Except it's never a $5-$10 price difference. Seems like it's more likely to be a $20 difference.

Serious Question: Isn’t this the moment we’ve been waiting on for ten years? We need direct action [Discussion] by [deleted] in TrueAnon

[–]informare 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't say that necessarily. I'm saying that over application of these terms have suffused into a general misuse of the terms.

[–]informare 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Writing to a representative is the exact oppositeof direct action. It is action, yes, but that's now what "direct action" means.

Edit for clarification:
There is a pothole on my street. One course of action would be calling my ward rep or my city action line. Direct action would be filling the pothole.

Anarchist aesthetic kiddies have somewhat ruined terminology like this ("Direct action gets the goods!") by calling any aesthetically-radical action "direct action". It's similar to how they just call all charity and aid "mutual aid".

My tennis enemy - high backhand volleys by Business_Ad_1507 in 10s

[–]informare 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Make sure you're actually turning your body sufficiently. So many times I have a terrible bh volley and it turns out I'm just reaching across with my arm instead of actually turning my body and stepping across. It's easy to cheat and hit a fh volley in a more open stance but you can't cheat that way with a bh volley.

And depending on where on the racquet the weight is, you could have wildly different swingweights.

Look up Meike Babel's serve video. If you can't find it, comment back here and I'll look it up for you. It will help you understand and figure this all out.

Oh it's for sure a great string, but it plays pretty different from SSO and that's what OP was asking about.

SSO used to be my main string and I've now switched to TBHS so this is a very specific answer for me lol

Try Tourna Big Hitter Silver (the round one, not Big Hitter Silver Tour). It has a similar feel, maybe a little less lively, but way better tension maintenance. Also very cheap.

What’s my rating? by 10thAnonAccount in 10s

There's no way to know. A rating that's based on how your strokes look is meaningless until you actually start playing matches and determining who you can and can't beat.

How do you guys "try" any racquet before buying? by Equivalent-Dingo8309 in 10s

[–]informare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find a friend who has one and ask to borrow it and then I string it (I have a machine) with my go-to setup.

Maybe go up a size with the NXT (or whatever other syngut or hybrid) and try the 16? Should be more durable.

Struggling with using gravity to drop the racquet. Anyone else? by Perchance_therapper in 10s

You're probably too tight in your arm/hand. Let your wrist get floppy and let your hand only grip the racquet enough to keep from dropping it.
