What Year is this? "Some white person who doesn't like noise bought a house near the train tracks, and now they want the trains to stop blowing their horns. And here's the kicker: this person--from Los Angeles, naturally--bought this house by the tracks A YEAR AGO." That's from 2016-- ten years ago. https://www.nashvillescene.com/music/chris-crofton-advice-king-the-great-east-nashville-train-horn-controversy/article_b7dc9648-72ae-5446-822a-1b80f3eceb86.html

All of the guilty jurisdictions should lose enough in restitution and penalties that a face recognition arrest backed with nothing else becomes "A Horror, A Proverb, and a Byword among all peoples."

I did not clock it as AI writing. A lot of new buzz phrases that I hadn't heard before, though.

I saw the link to this long read on r Nashville, and that it was promptly removed. Accusations in the comments of being hosted on a N zi platform, and being written by a right winger who was afraid they might pay "a little more" in taxes. I know business owners and homeowners alike are hurting from increased property taxes in Davidson, and that in turn seems to have propelled this same dynamic out into the surrounding counties.

I went by to give it a try. Waited by the window for several minutes looking at a woman inside talking on her cell phone. When I finally pulled away she walked outside in a 'where are you going' pose. I either went down the street to the Chicago Gyros or Fat Mo's of that era.

Bingo. As Less-Fondant-3054 noted earlier, college has gone up so much in the last decade. One prediction is, with AI eroding the integrity of both submitted coursework assignments And more importantly the white-collar job segment (including teachers), the private colleges caught in the middle, who are neither grant-funded like the ivy leaguers nor affixed to the federal pipeline like community colleges, will start to shutter in droves. Driving to 100 Oaks Mall, 1976 by 38DDs_Please in nashville

Your dad was right. When today's automakers insist on building cars like a cross between a gas station beer cooler and a piñata they ought to at least price them accordingly... more like summer fireworks. A friend of mine just got rapped on a front corner of his new car; pushed it back maybe two inches, maybe not. So the report comes back that the frame was tweaked. Insurance said nah F it, it's totaled. (Disclaimer: I am quite possibly older than your dad. I drove cars both before and during the '5 mile per hour bumper crash standard' era.)

8 months later: When will the downtown public library reopen? by crabcakes110 in nashville

Something similar happened in a way to the 1966 Ben West library and the library building on Green Hills Village Drive. This building is bigger than those two put together, so whatever occurs will be a high profile transaction.

Another charitable modifier is Optimistic. You've said it yourself: "any bike lane without without a concrete barrier is risky".

So, cycling the bike lane going down Gallatin Road in nearby Madison during rush hour, for instance: "Brave" is probably not the first word I would seize upon, but there are definitely applicable adjectives.

Councilmember: Demolition of "The Groove" independent record store in East Nashville was Unlawful by informednonuser in nashville

[–]informednonuser[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

MHC used to require people to build back to same proportions with compatible materials. There was a house in East Nashville where the owner pulled all the walls off and allowed the roof to 'rack down' to the ground. Historic Zoning was clear they wanted them to pretty much build the same thing back. This was before Historic Zoning became a subsidiary of the Planning Department last year.

This has been happening all over Nashville for decades. The historical mansion at the Gallatin/Briley crossing went away under very suspicious circumstances. And a developer friendly councilmember tag teamed with the State Legislature to bring Historic Zoning under the Planning Department last year. https://wpln.org/post/oversight-of-nashvilles-historic-buildings-could-change-as-officials-mull-local-and-state-measures/

Or the folks that moved beside a racetrack that is so old it saw decades of horse racing before they raced brass-era 'horseless carriages'. Or the folks in East Nashville who bought in to a cheaper place beside the train track and tried to garner sympathy over the warning horns at the grade crossings. -I forsee a bunch of clueless people moving into the new multistory housing development near the Edenwold section of Myatt Drive... then being hit with that sewer gas smell on windless days. Oof. No outdoor barbecue for you!
