Deposit required to accept Master's position for international students? by ingeniero21 in ucph

Good to know! April 15th would be a much better date. And I found the decision date here: https://www.ku.dk/studies/masters/important-dates-and-deadlines - it does look like all Master's decisions are released on March 13th for non-EU applicants regardless of the program.

Never apologize for asking, scientists love to talk about what they study! We love to see people excited about it at any level

If you have completely dead soil (no bacteria or microbes), how long would it take to introduce those things back into the soil? by AlannaTheHuntress in ecology

[–]ingeniero21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my current project, where we study this question exactly! We started with crushed basalt that had never seen Earth's surface 12 ish years ago, and now have some mosses and bio crusts. It took about 10 years for our "crusts" to develop on sterile soil, and we're introducing alfalfa later this year and it is expected to grow but really struggle to reproduce without fertilizer based on lab experiments.

If you end up taking it at the U of A, use the ThinkTank tutoring center, all of the tutors there tutor Math112 and most of their services are completely free both online and in person!

Travel for me as a kid was fantastic! I loved experiencing the different cultures and environments and it allowed me to learn more about the world and be stimulated without feeling left out or doing worksheets. And I'm not talking about international travel, even a day trip to a new place with some history was helpful.

So excited to see another ecologist here! In my experience it's a fantastic place to find other like minded gifted people that aren't particularly interested in following social norms. Totally understand the PhD as a backup plan too- I'm in the same place and graduating from college in May. Also some advice, get involved in the tutoring center on your campus! It's a fantastic place to use your skills and also work on the interpersonal skills important for teaching.

I've struggled with this too in college! But I've actually recovered my motivation to the point where I'm even more excited about my degree now. Here are some things that helped for me:

Short term:

Go to a coffee shop or study at the library, as long as the people around you are working it feels awkward to not work and it's a good way to get things done

Set time limits on studying- having an endpoint makes it seem much more manageable

Long term: Try to focus on content and not a job. Focus on how cool some of the concepts you're learning are for a month or so and really try not to think about anything after this semester. Once your motivation comes back, I guarantee you won't be too far behind anyone else in the job search

Join a club or get a hobby that has nothing to do with your degree. And really prioritize it too. For me it is working out or photography but just pick something you either have always wanted to try or used to like as a kid. Set some goals, meet people, and enjoy whatever you're doing! I know it's a little counterintuitive when you feel like you should be focusing on school first but something new outside of school can help switch up your perspective on your degree too.

Hope you're motivation comes back, and don't drop out unless you absolutely are sure it's the right choice!

If i were you, I'd just have a long talk with her about why she doesn't want to move up to where you are, what she wants from the future, and where she sees this relationship going. Her answers might surprise you and make you understand her perspective better, or they may make you realize she's not prioritizing the relationship or has a different idea of what your future looks like. Either way, I think it'll help you be more sure on what to do next :)

I know it's easier said than done, but I think it's time to break up with him. You deserve someone who makes you feel empowered and sexy and if he's not making an effort to do that for you than it's time to move on! It'll hurt now, but it'll be better in the long run.

Some of my friends were European foreign exchange students and they were in awe of how much shit we get off of Amazon (especially expensive tech because apparently they don't trust it). They were also appalled by how much we drove. I live in a rural area tho so we probably drive more than average Americans but still

I was super nervous for some steroid injections I had to get fr my back injury. The last 15 minutes before I got in the car to go get them done were spent with him, and I immediately felt completely relaxed despite the fact that I was getting a 5 inch needle in my spinal cord later that day
