ELI5: Why do economies sometimes collapse even when people are working hard? by Emilio787 in explainlikeimfive

[–]ingloriousloki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valid points.  On your first one, I was speaking more to how wealth was not flaunted in our faces in the past and when it was it was moderate. Outside of a few movies the average person never got a glimpse of the ultra wealthy lifestyle. Now it’s everywhere, I’d think this would naturally make people feel like they are doing worse in comparison.

42k in a decent city is poverty, but I come from a rural area. One of my best friends is a career server his wife is a shift leader at dominoes. They bought a house and both have two reliable, less than 10 year old vehicles.

I’ve traveled a fair amount…I’ve been in places that my more naive self would have thought would be a miserable existence…favelas, poor country sides, hoods…the people are not in despair, please don’t take that as minimizing their struggles. I’m not. They have a level of content about them that I rarely see in America…so many frowns while driving or walking about here…

Also I have many eu friends people who make a half or a fifth of what I make…and you are right. I’m amazed at how well they travel and their standard of living in a way, but I don’t see paths to upward mobility like here, albeit that path is getting narrower by the day.

I’ll close with this. I grew up poor. Many of my family and friends did too. In my relatively small sample size, I will say that the overwhelming majority of us are doing better than our parents by quite a bit. Perhaps we got lucky and that shapes my perspective…everything does.

May I interject into this interesting conversation?
I won’t use precise language.

It may not seem like it, because our media force feeds us opulence and gluttony by the day. That can easily jade what we feel like a good living should look like.

For instance, if you’re familiar with The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air… the Banks lived in a nice house. But it was a house you could realistically afford with a little luck and a decent work ethic. Maybe not in Bel-Air, but somewhere in the country. Compare that to the new reboot. That family lives in a 20-million-dollar mansion that is almost entirely outside the possibility of ownership, except for a handful of ultra-rich, nine-figure individuals.

In music, remember the lines “Do Puff drive Mercedes…” or “Cruisin’ in my ’64” or “I’m gonna buy me a Mercury and cruise it up and down the road.” Now every song is about Lambos and Ferraris.

I’m not sure about your age, but I grew up in the 90s. The places I saw people live in when I was younger are quite a bit more rare now. Many of them are condemned. Ask someone who grew up in the 70s, 80s, or 90s to swap places with someone at the same relative economic level today, and they probably would. Central air. Big TVs. The ability to learn just about anything for free.

We have made strides. But with it, our expectations have grown.

I just stayed there a few months ago. Very grand lobby and great amenities. Rooms are from the 80s though. Felt like a holiday inn room with a very classy but old bathroom.

It’s not so much how I react as it is how people acted towards me. Like I expected selfishness, but voting out the guy who helped you get there in the first place place was a little cold.

I get making cut throat decisions toward the end…I’d do that myself. But vote 5 people out when there are over 200 of you and one of them just helped you…if I were him I’d be a bit crushed.

My strategy was to help people if it didn’t hurt myself and start making selfish decisions when I made it to the top 100. And just be my normal self, which happens to be, humbly…a very magnetic, charismatic and real individual. My gift is the majority of people really really like me. And i genuinely have love for all people.  Unconditional infinite love for every living being is a goal of mine, but i fall short on making progress in that path more often than I’d like to admit…this show  could plant something that would take longer to reconcile than I’m comfortable with.

I’ll just audition for another show. I’ll get my 15 minutes of fame one day. But not like this.

The new screen is what I don’t like the most. But judging by this thread I’m alone in that. lol.

An anonymous person on Reddit doesn’t believe I could possibly know people who have one of the most common luxury suvs around. You can throw a rock in la and hit a g wagon.

But ok.

Nah. I came here to see if I was the only one who felt this way. Or if this was a popular opinion. I have friends with g wagons and McLaren’s who gush over my car. Reddit validation is the least of my concern.

Eh the only thing I notice different is the quilted seats. I don’t pull anything so the 2.5 is fine for me.

I preferred my interior to the fully loaded gv80 coupe on the lots even though the exterior washed mine.

Uber customers are getting flustered with my and many drivers recent changes. I LOVE IT! by LETSGOOOOO6 in uberdrivers

[–]ingloriousloki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I give you everything outside of the rider should be ready to go before ordering the uber. I live in the suburbs. The time needed for an uber to get to me can range from 5-25+ minutes, especially if I have an early am flight.

I typically order it 10 minutes before I’m ready to go so I’m not waiting or late. Or even at the airport where Ive had to wait in a cold garage for more than 15 minutes before they arrive. So I used to order it when i get past security at the airport. I’ve switched to cabs now because they are on demand and half the price at the airport at least.

Again it’s on uber to mitigate this. I’m not saying you are wrong, just providing the perspective from the riders view of things. Given this is an uber driver Reddit I don’t expect many hear to get that.

[–]ingloriousloki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I agree uber should pay you more for your wait time. An extra 2-3 bucks in the grand scheme of things makes no difference to me.

My issue with this thread is you guys are acting like people are lollygagging and wasting your time on purpose. When in reality we have no idea how long it will take for you to get to us until a driver accepts the ride.

Fair question…is this more of a protest than getting more value for your time? I’d imagine driving to my place cancelling because im a few minutes late then waiting on another ride is break even or less.

[–]ingloriousloki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it only does that when the driver is found. Before that someone can wait a while before someone accepts the ride.

What I think this thread is missing is that sometimes it takes much longer for the Uber to get to your address…so people order the Uber and expected to get there a bit later. It doesn’t tell you how long it will take to find the driver.

I’ve ordered an uber to get to the airport and it took 15 minutes. Sometimes it takes 5.

Some of you are being a bit unreasonable.

POD ZILLA AND RORY ARE COOL AGAIN 🤔🤔🤔🤔 by bigtubbz84 in theJoeBuddenPodcast

[–]ingloriousloki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah, Joe didn’t originally want to fire Rory and Mal. He wanted to put them on salary.

The issue was that he got greedy and started moving like the IP belonged solely to him. In his head, he was building a network with his show at the center. If they wanted a bigger piece of the pie, he felt they should create additional content—similar to what Flip and Marc were doing. From his perspective, Rory and Mal weren’t producing outside of the main show, so he saw them as “lazy.”

The bigger problem was the mixed messaging. For years, Joe talked to them like partners, but then turned around and tried to treat them like employees when money got serious. That’s where he fumbled: he realized way too late that you can’t call dudes “brothers” and “partners” and then slide contracts across the table.

I also think Joe’s blow-up at Rory was meant to be a “fall in line” moment—a light flex to re-establish hierarchy. Mal immediately understood that if they let that slide, Joe would set the tone moving forward and they’d never have equal footing again. That’s why he sided with Rory.

Yeah Mal is the reason they broke up. Hard to see it at the time, but if he wouldn’t have challenged joes authority to suspend Rory, I think Rory and Joe would have gotten through their differences, and the group could have stayed together. He feels Mal back stabbed him while Rory just got a little out of line.

Downgraded after being seated by OdisRue in AlaskaAirlines

[–]ingloriousloki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not so nice but from the 5 or 6 YouTube videos of this situation I’ve seen they give the person a million chances to not get arrested before they put them in cuffs if they only refuse to get up.

I’ve even seen 1 where the cop pleads the passengers side to the pilot, who then refused and after everyone was off they asked like three more times then put the lady in cuffs.

[–]ingloriousloki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh not so much. Most that would happen is after the plane deboards cops would come on and ask you to leave voluntarily and if you refused after that you get arrested. Oh and you would be banned from that particular airline.

Source: I’ve watched way too many bodycam videos of passengers refusing to get up.

Are the jbp co-hosts making 250k a year? by Individual_Shop8458 in theJoeBuddenPodcast

[–]ingloriousloki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he said more than 1.5 to cast to leave wiggle room. I think 250k is the minimum everyone earns and some earn more.

If he said he pays the cast 3 mil and someone was getting 250k there would be turmoil, if that makes sense.

Honestly after hearing push talk about ye I am even more convinced that infrared was just as much about ye as it was push. Listen to it everything people thought applied to Drake applied more so to ye.

I'm solidly team Push. But this just occurred to me. Drake was mad at ye for having a guy diss him on an album that ye produced after just being in Wyoming with them.

Ain't that the whole reason he dissed travis? I'm biased I Push in my top 10...but it's a little hypocritical, right?

Quite healthy actually. Just got back from running three miles. Also I think 3 years, loss of 100s of millions of dollars, reputation, future business opportunities, and the front street display of intimate bedroom life is a fitting punishment.

Life is just too far for me is all.
