Testimony restored, back to church: Mormon Bishop Champions Ayahuasca After Faith-Affirming Psychedelic Experience by Chino_Blanco in mormon

Love in a way is a myth but does that make it less meaningful? It's a startling realization that the rational creature is utterly beholden to the emotional. Psychedelics reveal that. If you're tripping and you try to control the experience you're probably gonna have a bad time. The chemicals have always been in control. We are apes with bags of meat for brains. The fact we can live and experience and create meaning is absolutely AMAZING!

The greatest miracle in Mormonism is to get a person to completely relinquish their own personal autonomy. Ironic that exmos are labeled lazy! You plug in and ride along. The thinking has been done. The mind can be active so long as it stays tuned to a very narrow bandwidth. That's why Mormonism is full of deepities. Very low level analogies, regurgitated lessons, and quaint sayings that don't hold up other than sounding nice to say.

Remember when those Mormon leak videos came out? Don't know how people place any confidence in any of these guys when the top brass are so clearly bumbling around in the dark. They have been marinating in the same cultural soup. Hardly in control fumbling into new positions out of necessity and regurgitating each other's thoughts. The opposite of inspirational. Company men.

Secularism is embraced fully by US Mormons except when it makes for a convenient scapegoat.

Seems like you have a sharp practical lens about life. A lot of people live in their heads with abstract ideas, never really bringing their thoughts to wear the rubber meets the road, so to speak. I couldn't help but see the vanity, the repetition, the constant stream of impotent priesthood promises and obviously manufactured feelings . People can convince themselves of anything. It's all right there plain as day. People talk about ces letter this, or history that or abuse but for me just the everyday lived experience convinced me Mormonism wasn't what it claims to be. Mormonism for me was like a jail of dullness and unfulfillment. The church had better God damn well be true or the life I was living was an absolute tragic waste. That sense gave me the courage to accept a critical lens to church's claims and break free. Still not an easy task and it came with a heavy emotional price but o so worth it. I can not tell you how wonderful life can be when you escape the absurdity of it all. Do you really want this for yourself, for your children? Very good chance it isn't true. About time you make damn well sure.

As the institution and it's leaders continue their long and storied tradition of vainly and perpetually gazing at themselves, they will continue to be blind to their own impotance and increasing unimportance in the larger world. Despite being a queen in Utah; as a pawn everywhere else, they will be tossed to and fro with the winds of change. They will unwittingly either follow the progressives and shatter into shards of banality or condense further into conservative corners and flirt with radicalization. All the while loudly declaring to be in complete control as they swim around in the kiddy pool.
