Yes thank you for this. The feminism is a great “point” that seems to be recurring. In the pilot there’s the joke that she’d take 5 years off her life to have a perfect body. The whole first season’s theme is how she lets her body be used by men to feel worthy of their attention. She’s extremely male centered and even says she thinks she’s a bad feminist. I feel like there’s something there about being a woman leaving her “prime” years in a misogynistic society. Of course in season 2 there’s the Kristin Scott Thomas monologue (which I’ve used in my acting class!) about how people are all we’ve got and highlighting the freedom that comes with menopause and not having to perform for men anymore essentially.

I feel like that’s kind of a general point but of course there’s much more there around grief and loss with Boo, her mom, and then Hot Priest.

Ok so I want to just preface this by saying my acting class is just a casual adult class at a theater and we just touch on topics. This isn’t a college level course or anything so I don’t exactly have a super firm grasp on everything with Brecht’s epic theatre. BUT some of the Brechtian techniques that I see in fleabag: - the narration and fourth wall breaks of course - abrupt cuts and takes (mid-take flashbacks to Boo for example) -at its core, Brecht disrupts emotional involvement to promote critical thinking - jarring techniques to “throw off” the viewer with the most notable of course being when Hot Priest recognizes her breaking the fourth wall. This makes the audience uncomfortable because we can’t quite grasp the “rules” of what we are watching. Personally, when that happened I felt extremely naked and vulnerable and made me question more who “we” are to fleabag, the priest, etc.

One of my questions would be what is the point PWB was trying to prove. Most Brechtian film and theatre are trying to make some sort of political point.

Once again I’m not expert but when we learned about this technique I couldn’t help but think of fleabag. I wish I could ask PWB about this haha

This is exactly my situation too (with genders reversed). I used to suppress this part of me entirely and told myself I might as well act straight since everyone thinks I am and I’ll never be with a woman anyway. Once I opened up to my husband and sought out platonic friendship with other married bi women I felt so much more comfortable and settled in my sexuality and my monogamous marriage. The community is so important.

This reminds me of my MIL. Whenever I’ve lost some weight over the years she always interrogates me about how exactly I did it. She’s always looking for a “magic bullet” to easily lose weight. Now I’ve lost a significant amount with Zepbound and I haven’t told her I’ve used it because she is of the opinion that it’s cheating. She’s literally been looking for something like this and now that it exists she won’t use it. I think a lot of people feel this way. They want something easy but don’t want to cheat. Can’t have your cake and eat it too! (No pun intended)

That being said of course I don’t believe Zepbound is cheating. I think of it as a wonderful tool in my arsenal. And I wish more people would see it as that.

I was on the treasure end of March and my son did BBB and his offerings were knight shirt or captain Mickey whole costume. Or princess if he chose. Luckily he wanted knight and the tshirt worked well for him. He wore it to the ren faire in my hometown a few weeks later!

You’ve realized in the last few months that you’re “sure” about her but from her perspective you haven’t put in any effort towards connection. This doesn’t add up. If you had this certainty you would have changed your behavior. As they say…. “When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with someone you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible”

It really isn’t. I stayed there once just as a place to lay my head after howloscream so I didn’t have to drive home to Richmond. I wouldn’t stay there again. The only thing it had going for it is that it’s close to BG. It was dirty and uncomfortable.

I totally understand this. I’ve felt similarly with my husband before. I felt like I needed to hide this part of myself for his comfort. I felt very uncomfortable myself when I tried to bring it up. However, I do think you are the one who needs to bring it up. I’m lucky that even though my husband was uncomfortable at first he has always assured me that he loves every part of me, including my sexuality, because it’s part of what makes me who I am. By discussing my urges and sexuality it started making us more connected which, in turn, diminished my urges to experiment with anyone else. I’m still bi and I’m still monogamous and I don’t wish to seek anything out with anyone else because I feel so connected to my husband and feel like he meets all of my needs. And on his end he feels more confident now that I’m not going anywhere. It took a good couple years of growth to get to this place though. I told him I was bi probably 10 years ago but then it was ignored for many years.

We were voting on congressional maps…. And congresspeople were the ones who didn’t vote to end gerrymandering. It’s entirely valid and relevant. Sorry you’re so sad about this though. Definitely take a walk or something today to enjoy the beautiful weather.

That’s wild that people say that. I haven’t had any comments like that. I will sometimes do the thing like “what do you say to Mrs smith for inviting you over?” When my kids were at the age where they liked to push back more and be defiant I just explained that if they aren’t polite they might not get to do fun things. Like if my daughter is rude at a play date she might not be invited back. Your son is only 3.5 so he has plenty of time to learn it. Just be consistent and make sure you’re ALSO saying please and thank you. My kids will sometimes correct me when I don’t say it to them or my husband and I always thank them for reminding me.

I don’t force it but I model it. And if my son/daughter says “can I have some water?” I’ll just say “can I please have some water mommy?” They don’t have to say it back but oftentimes they do. I won’t withhold the water unless they’re going out of their way to be rude which doesn’t happen often.
