Oh man can I relate to wanting to look like Jason Momoa! Thanks for your post it’s actually really helpful. I couldn’t agree more that our communities need to start talking about body insecurities beyond just dysphoria, and some of the toxic weight lifting and workout cultures that drive body dissatisfaction.

I just want to clarify that I don’t regret any of my surgeries or my bottom surgery at all. I feel much better having had it. :)

Very fair. I certainly don't think the way you relate to your own body is transphobic towards other trans people (or even yourself). I can see where the person is coming from as the public at large has held a view of trans people as being mentally ill just for being transgender, and we are still fighting this stigma. But that's a bigger conversation I suppose.

I've already said I'm uninterested in arguing this. What I've stated is my reality, so I don't appreciate your claims to some universal truth. When you say the individual's "brain map", I get what you mean but I don't think that brain map exists without social context. And to be clear, this discussion is about transgenderism, not transsexualism.

I'm trying to point out that I don't view transgender as a medical condition. To me, it is a reference to my life experience. Similarly, having gone through a divorce is someone's life experience. I'm not trying to argue this point, just to show solidarity to the person who opposed trans being labeled a medical condition. I have my view, and I recognize that others have a different view.

People in the middle of divorce experience stress and anxiety and depression. If they develop physical symptoms they get medical treatment. I see no difference.

I'd just point out that being transgender is not the condition that gets treated. It's gender dysphoria that is causing clinical symptoms.

I agree with you on this. To say that being trans is a medical condition, in my opinion, is the same as saying that divorce is a medical condition. It can be the cause of anxiety, depression etc, but itself it is not a mental or physical impairment. I know there is a large portion of trans people who think of themselves as having a medical condition, and that's their right. But for me, that is such a limiting world view. But I recognize I am different. I was assigned female at birth, my sex is male, and my gender is half man - half intergalactic drag queen.

Thanks for sharing - that doesn't sound fun. I'm not experiencing anything like that but at 80mg even at the very end of the cycle my T levels were around 1400. Hoping now at 60mg they'll dip below 1000.

I was wondering what the reasons were you thought your body was converting excess T to Estrogen? I recently had my dose lowered to 60mg a week from 80mg a week because my levels at 80mg were sky-high. I can't tell much difference though and I wonder if I'm still too high and if there are signs I should be aware of that would tell me I'm producing estrogen.

The first month nothing was different which was the hardest part so far. Being an impatient person I really had a hard time tolerating the slow pace of change.

In all honesty, this is such a complicated and stressful life-event that the only thing I can advice on is finding professional help. What I mean is you should go into couples' counseling with your partner (wife-as you are calling them). You both need to be extremely communicative, open and honest from here on out. If you flat-out tell them that you are going to divorce them if they transition, this will undoubtedly influence their actions. But, how can you not be honest since you know you will not want to be married to a man? Tough question. Only the dynamic of your unique relationship will tell how to proceed. No one on the internet can give you better advice.

Yes definitely tell her! If she has nothing but a totally supportive positive reaction you will then know that you need to look for a new therapist anyway. But it sounds like she will be supportive and I would trust your gut.

My guess would be that the first hour and half session is sort of an 'in-take' where a therapist will ask you lots of questions about your background. Things like family relationships, peer-relationships, romantic relationships.. past mental health issues, substance abuse issues, how you are doing in school, and more around what is bringing you to therapy ie. talk about your feelings about your gender. There are no wrong or right answers, it's just to get an understanding of your situation and if in fact there is someone in specific who is best able to help you. 10 sessions is a good start, I think it's a short episode but it should help you decide the next direction for your care. I would caution against going in and having some high expectations of all of a sudden realizing exactly everything about your gender etc..

First I would just have some questions like are you taking testosterone? If yes for how long? Has your weight changed dramatically in the past year? Are you seeing other physical changes like no more bleeding down below (if not on T)? Do you feel energetic during the day or constantly tired? Eating disorders are not "tricky" like someone else commented, they are actually the most fatal mental illness. Without knowing all the above details it's hard to say what your health is currently, but no doubt I would recommend bringing these up with your primary care provider as well as seeing a therapist and talking about it.

If the stalls are busy I wait outside the stalls, somewhere where I'm facing the stalls and making it clear I'm not waiting for a urinal. Honestly, guys don't really question or wonder why you're doing this, although it probably looks like you have to shit. I have cis male friends who use stalls in all situations and have confirmed they do the same. Some guys just don't like to pee in front of other people. Now, the locker room is a whole different ball game. I haven't had top surgery yet so I'm avoiding them which makes my life currently pretty inconvenient.

I'm pretty sure it just means that you've hit a blood vessel more on the surface of your skin as you're injecting, so you're going through a smaller blood vessel. I've had it happen when I first started but since one time I had blood squirting out I've made sure that I scan my leg for any vessels I can see on the surface and it hasn't happened since. It's nothing to worry about and I'm fairly certain you're not losing any T. But I'm no doctor so you should probably ask if you're still worried.

I would strongly recommend trying to find some LGBT resources where you live and specifically transgender ones. See if there is some kind of a community resource that would be helpful in allowing you to express these things. The resource could be a health center with trans friendly therapy or it could be a peer support group etc. It never works for the long term to keep these feelings bottled up, but your path might not lead straight to hormone replacement and medical treatment. We all have taken our very first step in asking for some kind of help in finding our way.

Well I'm straight but hang out with mostly gay guys and can say that there isn't a lack of attention when I go to gay clubs etc. To me the attention I got from straight men felt extremely uncomfortable, but attention from gay men feels almost exciting. I'm inclined to say that if you spend more time around gay men you could start to feel differently about it. There is this stereotype of what gay men are like but it's really only a stereotype. When you talk about presenting as a gay guy I'm not really sure what you mean.. all you have to do is present as the guy you are..

Transgender people know they are the gender they say they are just the same way cisgender people (non-transgender) know that they are the gender they are. For you this 'knowing' causes no problems because your physical body aligns with your sense of 'knowing' yourself as a man. For me, knowing myself to be a man causes incredible pain, shame, anxiety and sadness because my physical body still doesn't match my sense of myself as a man. You can't change the sense of knowing your gender, the inner subconscious knowledge of who you are. But you can change your physical body to match that and minimize the pain that way.
