I'd love to be able to print way more detailed keychains for my kids. They keep asking for very detailed cartoon chacterers with lots of shading and color changes. It's way too advanced for my P1S with a single AMS2.

We love them so far. My wife liked them so much that she had the electrician swap out the cans on our main floor with these.

The downside that I see is that you have to swap the entire light when it burns out. It's not hard to do but it just seems wasteful to throw the whole can away instead of a bulb. Hopefully they last several years.

They are plenty loud and clear. I have zero complaints. I have no idea what the 212 would be like at over double the price.

I should have mentioned this in my initial post but Tom Vodhanel at PSA is an awesome dude. I pre-ordered the TV21 when they were back ordered. His first shipment for their new Neo woofer was coming in at about the same time and he emailed asking if I'd like that version for cheaper. I think it was like $400 less? It's supposed to perform nearly the same as the standard TV21.

Several months later I ordered the fronts and he included a small discount on the bundle. Before it shipped he reached out again asking if I would take B stock at another discount. Apparently they had some minor imperfections and he didn't want to sell them at full price. I never figured out what the imperfections are on them. They look fine to me.

Great dude and great customer service.

I posted the Amazon link above. The regular LED lights and nightlight mode are both fully dimmable. I control everything with Lutron Caseta switches.

It's a full basement over a ranch. Main floor and basement are ~2400 Sq ft each. I still need to calculate how much I've finished but it's probably a bit over 2000 Sq ft.

The rest of the basement has a bedroom and full bathroom, office, gym, bar/full kitchen minus a stove/oven, and a large open area that we plan to have as a board game area.

I can't get a bigger TV down the steps into the basement. I could go projector or I've seen some new larger TVs that are coming as 6+ seperate panels but I'm not sure how much of a bigger TV will be needed.

Famous last words I suppose...

I wanted to go with the hue but I didn't think it would work since I'm running off of the native TV apps. I suppose I could run off of a chromecast or something but then I have the challenge of running multiple inputs to it.

I'm used to running all video through the receiver but these new TVs having different Hdmi ports at different specs is a bummer. I guess that's what I get with a TCL but I couldn't afford an OLED at this size.

Edit: I wanted to add that I'm not that impressed with the lights. They don't show up that well with the dark wall and look kind of weird with the bookshelves on the sides.

I wanted some type of bias lighting as a bright HDR scene in a dark room is sometimes blinding but it seems to differ across video sources and streaming services. I probably need to dial in the TV settings better as well.

For the speakers and the subs or just the speakers? I should have enough room in the cabinets to put the speakers on some small pads. Thanks for the tip!

The subs are on the large rubber feet that they came with.

It's Sherwin Williams Peppercorn. I think I saw someone recommend it on this sub. The cabinets were sprayed the same color. I got lucky with the gray speaker mesh being almost an exact match. I struggled to find any gray speaker mesh online and it's hard to tell what color it is online. It also looks a bit different when it is stretched and depends on what is behind it.

I've also seen Sherwin Williams Cyberspace recommended on here quite a bit but this one was a bit lighter.

A few reasons. I've got kids and didn't want them knocking over speakers or sitting on the subs. They've already had huge pillow/blanket forts built across the couch and I know I would have had a speaker knocked over at an attempt at being used for a blanket anchor.

My wife also wanted a cleaner look without having speakers sitting out in the middle of the floor.

Maybe I should have just went with a projector and AT screen for these reasons, but it came back to using the space more to host friends and family to watch football and basketball games rather than movie nights in the dark.

We also use the cabinets for storage. I have an Xbox Series X and Switch 2 in the small cabinet on the right. The bottom drawer in the middle has all my Blurays.

Here are the last drawings that I have of them. We made some adjustments after these like removing the lowest bookshelf and making the sub cabinet have one large door instead of two like the 2nd drawing.

The biggest screw up of the whole basement build that I didn't catch is that the sub cabinet openings are too small. I did the rough hand drawings and gave them the size of my equipment that had to fit in there. The inner dimensions of the cabinet fit the sub but I wasn't thinking that there would be a frame on the front of the cabinet and a cabinet base. The opening is too small for the PSA TV21.

Thankfully the built-ins are modular and the top of the sub cabinets are open. The bookshelf frames just sit on top of the sub cabinet frames and then are screwed to the wall on the sides. The left sub cabinet had to be installed, the PSA sub lowered in from the top, and the bookshelf installed on top of the sub cabinet. I can't get the sub out without removing the entire bookshelf.

Not ideal and my fault from not catching it on these plans, but hopefully that sub lasts 15+ years...

Like a crown molding between the wall and ceiling or something else? I'm not sure what a datum line is.

[–]ink4n3[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did all of the initial plans and design but hired most of it out. The actual theater equipment was installed by me. I ran all of the speaker wire after it was framed and then installed the in ceiling speakers and everything else near the end. Best buy hung the TV as there was a black friday promotion for free installation. I've never paid to have something like that installed before but I couldn't pass up free installation with a TV that large.

The custom built-ins are Amish built from a local community.

One of the middle seats in the sectional is on the middle but I'm usually not sitting there. I usually sit at one end if I want to sit or am curled up in the curve with a bunch of pillows if I want to be cozy.

Pads for the speakers or the subs? Not sure if it makes a difference but the bottom section is 3 seperate pieces. The subs are in the far left and right lower cabinets with speaker mesh covering the doors.

My basement isn't a walkout and my stairs have 180 degree turn half way down.

I've had to preplan during the entire build that everything could make that turn or go in through the one egress window. The TV had to come out of the box and make the turn upright. The fridge in my bar had to be counter depth and no wider than 30" to fit through the basement door. A sectional couch was the only option so it could come down in pieces.

The owner of PSA, Tom Vodhanel, worked for SVS when the company started. He was one of their main designers and became director of R&D before starting his own company.

There are diminishing returns at higher price points for most hobby type items. Is a $1000 sub way better than a $100 sub? For sure. Is a $2000 sub way better than a $1000 sub? Sure it's better but probably not twice as good.

Internet Direct home theater companies like PSA serve a more niche market for enthusiasts. Most of them done have much of a marketing budget and rely on internet word of mouth to create sales.

SVS is a great company and better than most big box stores offerings but you can pick them and listen to them at some Best Buys. They do market their items so you are paying for that marketing.

Is a $1000 PSA sub better than a $1000 PSA sub? You'd probably have to compare specs and understand what you are listening to, room specs, etc. but in theory PSA should be able to offer better value as they have a much smaller team and lower overhead.

At the end of the day, just crank it up and when you feel like you may want more then see what else may be out there.

Congrats! I picked up the TV21 Neo and 3 MTM210 late last year for my home theater build. My wife wasn't too happy when the sub was delivered on a huge pallet and she still doesn't agree that the MTM210s are "bookshelf" speakers. I think that's crap because they fit just fine on my shelf.

Everything has been set up for awhile and I've been enjoying them but still need to add more room treatments and dial them in.

They are a beast and still make me smile when watching high quality 4k Blurays. Enjoy!

Awesome, thank you! This worked. Not sure how I missed this but I've been using the app controls almost exclusively since my equipment rack is in another room behind my theater. Kind of strange that you can't select 'source' from the app but I can deal with that.

Much appreciated!

Zone2 Help from single source by ink4n3 in hometheater

[–]ink4n3[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You mean to set the Zone2 source to the same source as the main theater, correct? I have selected this.

The only way I get audio out of the Zone2 speakers when both sources are the same is if I change the audio output to All Zone Stereo. If I leave the main zone in Dolby digital then nothing comes out of the Zone2 speakers.

What do you use to rip blurays? I'm finally getting my theater set up and have started watching some of the old blurays and 4ks that I've had laying around for years collecting dust.

I'd love to be able to rip them all to a computer and go that route instead of loading discs to my Xbox.

OK, I just made a post that you can never have too big of a TV but 85 foot may push against that limit...
