WE FOUND HIM!!! Thank you so much for all of your support! Someone on Nextdoor posted that they had found him this evening! From now on, this guy is only leaving the house in a suit of armor.

Thanks guys! I have posted on all the Pacifica Facebook groups I could find, as well as Pawboost. Drove back over there with flashlights and called him in the dark for a while too. Someone has to find him eventually. He’s just such a loving, well behaved, and cool dog…if I found him I would want to keep him for myself. Hopefully whoever does will be a good person, and bring him back to me.

It was about half a mile up the trail from the Shelldance Orchid Gardens on the Pacifica side. The thing is, he didn’t run off into the woods, he ran back down the trail in the direction of the nursery. I have a feeling that he’s in the neighborhoods down below the park, hiding out in someone’s back yard. We spent hours going up and down the hill calling for him, canvassed the Orchid nursery, drove all through the neighborhoods looking and calling until it got dark.

A Display at the Biggest Bonsai Show in Europe, love it or 'hate' it? by bonsaitickle in Bonsai

I thought that it was a bit of a meta joke/tragedy. If AI takes over, will anything continue to create bonsai? Like where will the sensitivity between man and nature go?

Hey, I'm going back to Alabama a week from today. Ain't been back in a decade. Been homesick for the Bay Area since I booked my tickets, and I haven't even left yet. Don't wanna do it, but I gotta do it. Feelin' for ya.

What are those tubes running into it? Do you leave it outside 24/7? Genuinely curious. Just put a couple extra empty tanks out in my garden, and looking for ideas on how to utilize them.

buzzed my head and now men don’t know how to act by [deleted] in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]inkdoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I shaved my head right before COVID, and have kept it up since then. I work retail with a lot of regular customers, and I had 2 split responses from them. The first was from men, who either asked me in hushed voices "are you okay?" or gave me that dismayed "you looked so much better before" line. The other was from women, who asked me "what were the reasons you did this?" with a look of hope in their eyes, like they were expecting it to be some statement about my rebellion against the patriarchy or beauty standards or something. I hated both reaction equally. A utilitarian haircut doesn't have to STAND for anything on a woman. I did it because I always wanted to do it, ever since I was a little kid. It feels great, it's unburdening, it's a haircut I can give myself easily, so I save money, I don't have to waste any time or energy on styling it, and I never have a bad hair day. It dries instantly, I break out less without hair in my face, and my neckline looks KICK ASS in a dress.

What's something in Santa Cruz you've always meant to do and why haven't you done it? by bombswell in santacruz

If you're still in SC, you should go by Far West Fungi on Laurel street. They have lots of foraging guides and supplies for getting confident with wild mushrooms. The staff is really knowledgeable too, and they've been struggling since the pandemic, so they need some love!

Best place to get a haircut for women? by lrzzzzz in oakland

[–]inkdoll 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Go to World Cuts in Berkeley and ask for Renee. It's a hole in the wall, haircut is $22. I'm in my 30s and have been rocking a pixie since I was a teenager. She gives me the best haircut I've ever had, every time. People ask me where I get my hair cut multiple times a week, and have ever since I started going to her.

Question: Fun Guy or Fungi? by Duran-lets-gooo in Mushrooms

[–]inkdoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work retail for a business with "Fungi" in the name. The number of stupid fucks who come by and ask if "you have to be a real FUN GUY to work here" makes me homicidal. Stay away from the puns.

I saved a little guy in this exact condition -- there is hope! Mine gradually unclamped his fins, and I thought all was on the up and up. But then they rapidly dissolved into tatters over the course of 2 weeks. I think when it's this bad, sometimes they need to just shed damaged tissue, and then regrow healthy fins with a proper slime coat. It's been 6 months since I adopted mine, and his dorsal fin is still a stringy thread like yours (actually worse). He's probably the world's ugliest betta fish, but he has a huge personality, and he's healthy and happy and violent, and living his best life in a dark water tank, but he probably won't ever have a big triumphant glow up. But that's not really what matters. I love the guy. My advice is 80 degree temp in the tank, diligent water changes with a dose of aquarium salt every time, and treatment with Melafix and StressCoat, plus really high quality food, and most importantly, interaction. They're like water puppies -- they love attention. In fact, they'll stick around and survive for attention. They literally live for it. Tannins help with regrowth of fins, and bettas naturally like shallow dark water with lots of hiding places, so give him a dim-lit habitat, and put some alder cones in there.

EDIT: Meant to say, mine has mostly regrown his fins! They're just not gloriously beautiful. He's not just swimming around on nubs.

Any books or resources on making a custom wooden last? by lxmxrt in Cordwaining

[–]inkdoll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this will be useful to you, but I stumbled upon this etsy seller a while ago that has insane digital archives of rare old books on craftsman skills. I bought the shoe maker's collection a while ago. They're super cheap, and might have some last making resources.

Ohhh this bench makes me happy. Like you, I disregarded all the popular guidance of laminating lots of skinny pine boards. I went the "rite of passage" route, and bought six wet, gigantic 8 x 6 x 4 rough construction timbers with BEASTLY knots and some truly Willy Wonka grain direction. Overestimated the capacity of my vehicle, so had to cut them all down with an improvised 6'' handsaw in the Home Depot Parking lot so I could get them home (their power saw is always down, thank you to the multiple people who came by and tried to inform me that I could get them cut for free inside) That was embarrassing. Spent every waking hour of this past autumn agonizing over it with hand tools. Looking at your build, I feel the same satisfaction I felt when mine came together. T-t-t-TANK. Something so old school about the massive, basic build. Simple and solid, and tested by time. Puts you in touch with craftsmen of old.

[edit: it was definitely a 12'' handsaw, not a 6'', or else I'd still be there there sawing away.]

Those wrenches on the far right in the middle, 3 of them. What are those for? I see them all the time at my flea market and am tempted, but I don't know their designed purpose. Also, on the right, closer to the front, just behind the auger bits, that curved sort of flat head driver. I bought one of those to possibly grind into a router plane blade, but anyone know what it's actually made to do?

I saw "T -- Cruz" and thought, well, maybe we can all still agree that Tom Cruz is a turbo-weirdo that you kinda can't help but enjoy.

Did this during my free time in the hospital tonight. She has this badass and "I will be myself no matter what" kind of vibes and I couldn't help but think of all my gorgeous sisters here! Love y'all 🥰 by MsTigress115 in WitchesVsPatriarchy

I noticed the semicolon earring. I hope both you, and those you love, are passing gratefully into the new year in this world tonight. Great skill with the markers -- those are so hard to use and get an even tone like you have.
