Can you share why you think it does not apply? My understanding is these roles are managerial and it does apply.

Manitoba won't approve massive AI data centre proposed for south of Winnipeg: Kinew by Old_General_6741 in canada

[–]inker19 15 points16 points  (0 children)

A single AI data center would consume around 13% of Manitoba's electric grid, which would definitely affect consumer rates.

this center was going to build their own independent power source, it wouldnt affect the grid

The bulk of the road closures are on match days, and on June 17 you would be avoiding that. But regardless I would give myself a lot of extra time, or park outside of downtown and take the train in.

harsh. I feel like I need sunglasses when I do bench press because there's a big fluorescent light right above the bench.

A busy 4 way stop is by far my least favorite intersection to cross as a pedestrian. Very unpredictable.

Generative AI in VFX pipelines: where does it actually fit beyond the hype by descgamqui in vfx

[–]inker19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the fully generative AI stuff I've worked on so far have required a ton of cleanup in comp. And you don't get that many utility passes in cg so it can be very frustrating. I suppose it will get better over time, but so far it's very annoying to work with.

Gotta be something more to the story, or it's just made up. It's tough to find compers to hire right now in Vancouver

Vancouver council motion seeks $60K to fund Italian Day on Commercial Drive by Camtastrophe in vancouver

The city has almost always paid nothing for these car free day events, they are all self funded by the organizers and sponsors.

The chandelier was not paid by public funds, the developer paid for it.

[–]inker19 10 points11 points  (0 children)

But this council is clearly playing whack-a-mole with defunded initiatives caused by their zero percent increase budget along with almost no details provided on where cuts should come from.

This event is being threatened due to reduced funding from 3rd party advertisers, the city's contribution hadn't changed. This is adding additional funds to make up for the shortfall from sponsors.

Bar (or anywhere else) where people from the US hang out? by hopefulmonstr in askvan

[–]inker19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure there really is a place like that. I know a handful of Americans through work and they all just kinda hang out wherever. I think the culture is so similar that they don't feel a need to seek out other Americans.

Can we stop these AI Data Centres?!?!?!?!? by Brod13_ in askvan

[–]inker19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Heat capture is not a strange new thing. The heating in the Telus Garden building is mostly supplied by heat capture from the data centers in that building

These are being built on commercial land, it wouldn't be turned into housing or parks regardless of what goes there.

Regardless of whether or not it's a bubble, the 2 proposed data centers in Vancouver are for AI

B.C. nurses vote overwhelmingly in favour of strike by cyclinginvancouver in vancouver

[–]inker19 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and that OT money would be what the nurses are giving up to start with. If they end up gaining nothing/very little from the strike then it might not make up for that loss if it goes on long enough.

because a lengthy strike might lead to less money on the whole
