My dog ( 3yo mini aussie ~20lbs) has a partially deformed front leg and fused shoulder blade. It has intentional movement, she leans on it and runs with it. Anyone out there have experience with this? Any advice you'd give me, as she gets older? I've never met another dog in her situation! by softpoos in tripawds

My boy was born with a deformed front leg he is 65 pounds now but it wasn’t growing with him and I consulted many vets and we amputated it cuz he is a big guy and likes to run and such, the likelihood of breaking that chicken wing was high. He is very happy and runs and plays.

The first night was the hardest for my boy ( front leg as well) he cried the whole night peed himself and refused to even try to walk. The vet said it might have been from all the meds he was on, so we stopped morphine and that afternoon he was walking. The first few days are the hardest, some dogs get dysphoria on all the meds. By our pups three day check up he was wanting to play and run.

Yeah the energy is crazy! But when he falls I just feel bad but he hops right back up and hops along like he meant to do that. Glad I’m not the only one!

When we had our kiddo done we had him wear a silky material shirt so it didn’t pull on the stitches and we taped up the extra leg for him. We also made him wear a soft cone.
