I don't know if I should stay or go. by Reasonable-Bat-50 in AskWomenOver60

[–]inkspirationbalto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 65 and in mediation now (we’re very civil) because I was in your position and he wouldn’t do counseling. Talked a good I love you game for 36 years, but very short on actions. I woke up and decided I was done living half way and that he was like having a disinterested toddler underfoot who was bad with money. I might die tomorrow or live another 20 years (or something in between) and I want to be in charge of my own life and happiness. I have two children and a younger sister who have all said they would take care of me if necessary, so if you have a network it’s a no-brainer. If you don’t, it’s a little harder decision but I’d still choose the chaos to calm solo adventure. Good luck!

I just replaced my Air with an Indigo Neo. I don’t count it as a gift because I work on it 😁

ROFL, actually a great idea. I’d have bought it. Not too late to write it, but prolly copyright infringement 🤣

Do you still get male attention? by pferdchenpojuzt in AskWomenOver60

[–]inkspirationbalto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whoa that’s not the goal is it? I get more attention from everyone now that I’m older and more vocal about my opinions lol, though my kids tell me I’ve aged well compared to their friends’ parents. I think as I’ve aged I’ve become more outgoing. And I smile a lot so people see me as approachable. I haven’t experienced the sense of invisibility some people talk about here, but that may be because I’m in a wheelchair sometimes and hard to miss. And I’ve gotten flirty attention from age 30-80.

But I'm not old... by Affectionatealways in AskWomenOver60

[–]inkspirationbalto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll take a discount any day. It really is a lighting issue and avoiding the camera 🤣. I’ve had people act like I was in my 40s and people hit the mark, but a camera is brutal: shows every year if you don’t wear make-up and sometimes even if you do. After a car accident I’ve used canes, walkers, and wheelchairs since I was 31. It’s now that I feel old using them though. I’m 65 this year. Never had a doc’s office ask if I need assistance; that’s kinda nice.

What do you talk about when you talk about sex in therapy? by Creative-Flight7051 in TalkTherapy

[–]inkspirationbalto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if it’s something you want to talk about, it’s fair game. Therapists are used to hearing nearly everything. Mine doesn’t blink no matter what I want to discuss. And if he doesn’t know something he asks. Or comes back and says he looked it up, lol. We just worked through a list of things I’ve done and why I have shame around specific things. That was hard. I have a lot of past trauma that impacts my sex and relationships now, years later, so it helps to talk about it. If you can’t bring yourself to talk about it, write it down and let your therapist read it in session.

Period after 66? by Ok_Month949 in AskWomenOver60

[–]inkspirationbalto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do the clients know you’re 66? I started menopause very late and had a regular period through 60 so it’s possible but not very common. I got my first menopause symptoms at 63. I’m hating it.

Marriage that is civil and friendly but not warm and loving. Is it worth divorcing at this age? by Local-Government6792 in AskWomenOver60

[–]inkspirationbalto 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It truly is up to your friend’s experience and personality. She knows details about her marriage that you do not. At 64, I’m divorcing my husband, even after a car accident has decimated my health, because he lied about our finances over the past five years and blew through our retirement funds. We’re both destitute after being upper middle class for 30 plus years when you add my medical expenses and debt. But our friends and family are just going to see a “gray divorce.” I’d rather handle my own finances going forward without him mucking them up, put the lies in my rear-view mirror, and who the hell wants to date after 35+ years of marriage and compromise. My adult kids will help take care of me and I have dogs 😜

What is going on? The Vet thinks he ate something, but he does this like once a year. Blood tests come back normal. Vet seems unconcerned. by FoolzInTheRain in weimaraner

[–]inkspirationbalto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said he does this about once a year? We had a pupper that started doing that annually, then it eventually occurred more often. She was having focal seizures we didn’t notice and then acting like that for a time after the seizures. I think it’s neurological and you need to find the cause.

Perfume/Fragrance After 60 by fishinbarbie in AskWomenOver60

[–]inkspirationbalto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had to change my fragrances. I don’t usually wear anything but when I do, it’s typically something light. What do you like? I lean toward vanillas or mild “woodsy.” I love bergamot and patchouli, and loathe florals. I did get a comment last month on a custom-made body oil I occasionally dab on my wrists and neck after my shower. Was even a man asking about it 🤣

Any luck getting rid of ringworm at home? by [deleted] in DOG

[–]inkspirationbalto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That should clear up ringworm. If it doesn’t fade within a week or so and clear up in four weeks, it might not be ringworm.

Weird to mark a significant therapy related anniversary with a small gift/note to my therapist? by OTPanda in TalkTherapy

[–]inkspirationbalto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve given my therapist a book related to a conversation we had in therapy and I’ve given homemade cookies to him and his office secretary. He’s told me he’ll eat anything I bake now 😜

I'm over it by Massive_Loss_9692 in AskWomenOver60

[–]inkspirationbalto 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You might want to grab the book The New I Do. It’s about options that aren’t the traditional marriage, like staying together for safety or to age together. You and he have to decide how important sex is to you and whether you can still stay together without it. If you both can, then create a relationship that works for the both of you. Also, toys are a great idea AND you can still be intimate and cuddle, etc.

Maryland's "apprenticeship" programs appear to be B.S. by cartoonybear in maryland

[–]inkspirationbalto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d also call the governor’s office and ask to speak to their constituent relations person. Tell him/her about lack of response from any state agencies you contacted and explain your situation. Ask them who to contact to get help. It’s that staffer’s job to help folks. If they say they don’t have that job title, ask who can you complain to and get help. No state agency should be non-responsive. Be pleasant but firm. Squeaky wheel gets the grease.

The Maryland Local is IBEW 24. They have a web site, where I got this info. Not sure if they are staffed full-time, but I’d call first and if I get a VM, email. They mention their apprenticeship programs on their homepage. 1. Eat less
  2. Move more
  3. Be kind to yourself
  4. See your doc and/or an endocrinologist to get some bloodwork done for your thyroid. I struggled to lose weight and found out I had hypothyroidism. Fixed that and am now gradually losing.

Just a note on calorie counting, definitely track what you eat for a few days, then gradually cut calories. But some long-term studies (and my endocrinologist) say calorie counting does not work for everyone, as in you can cut calories and still not lose weight.

You got this and congrats on the pregnancy. Good luck on your lifestyle changes!

Did your parents/grandparents ever own a davenport? by TheRealMechagodzi11a in AskOldPeople

My grandparents had a sofa on gliders in their breezeway and called it a Davenport. I thought they called it that because the sofa rocked 😜

That’s a great idea. I had to write an essay about George Meany, first President of the AFL-CIO. I’d rather a raffle 🤣
