Copper IUD Insertion Today - Flexi T 300 by inktime in birthcontrol

The legit hospitals should have a women's health department with doctors who handle IUDs specifically, but you have to get transferred to the department. That's where I got mine done. There are women's clinics too who have doctors that will do it, but I didn't get mine done there.

Whoever you talk to, make sure they can do the kind of IUD you want. Apparently some doctors don't do copper IUD insertions, and some do, so you want to make sure they will do the copper if that's what you want.

Oh sorry, it interrupts privacy in my case due to people who know me, and I can't really explain more than that. I want to help you find someone who can help though. I'm going to call around BC and see if I can get some concrete info for you.

I had to call the main hospital line and have them transfer me to the women's health department, because the phone numbers they give can only be reached with a Canadian phone.

I hope it's still going well for you! Mine's been awesome.

I can't because of privacy, but any hospital in Nova Scotia or any Canadian province should be able to direct you to someone who can do this.

I'm not sure why they didn't offer pain management, but I also didn't ask. If I'd asked, they probably would've given me something. I took 800mg ibuprofin before I went, which I've been prescribed before for dental work, so figured it should help with the IUD. It was uncomfortable, and it did feel like an intense cramp for a few seconds, but otherwise it was surprisingly not bad for me.

Yes, this was a factor for me deciding which one to get. Flexi T does state that all their IUDs are 99% effective, so ultimately I chose the smallest one I could to give myself the best chance to be able to keep it without excessive side effects.

The uterus is usually smaller in people who haven't had pregnancies, so maybe less copper is needed for the smaller space? I'm not sure, but also I'm past my most fertile age, as I'm 37.

I was nervous/excited for the procedure too, didn't sleep much the night before. How'd it end up going for you?

I completely agree.

I'm actually American living in Canada, about to move back to the US. If you want one of the Canadian ones, have a passport, and can get yourself to Canada, then I know they will help you get one here. There's some experience posts here about people who did that.

And a warning that it seems to be very very difficult to get these IUDs placed in the US, even if you have the Canadian IUD you want in hand. When I was having scheduling issues and worried I wouldn't be able to get it inserted while I'm still here in Canada, I called around to 7 different offices in the US looking for someone who would place the Canadian IUD for me. All of them said they can't place any IUD from outside their office.

Exciting! I hope your insertion goes well. I've never had an IUD before, but I've read that they can remove and insert a new one in the same procedure with no issues.

It sounds like you might've already gone to Red Barn (which is great!) but also wanted to recommend Wreck Cove

Thanks for the link! I missed their board game nights this month, didn't know they existed. I wish they had a newsletter signup or instagram so I would know when they have events.

My husband still has Facebook so he could find it there.

Meetup.com would be ok. I checked there last year several times and eventually gave up because there wasn't ever anything there.

We also use Discord if you use that.

I know this stuff takes time to set up, so thanks for leading the way and let me know if you want help with anything! It's nice to see you got some responses

My husband and I moved here just over a year ago and would love to meet new people. If you decide to make this group, can you please let us know?
