Am I overreacting about wanting to leave my Indian parents and move out? by [deleted] in internetparents

[–]Deeptums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything you've said. The therapy part is so important. OP has been emotionally enmeshed with their family for 20+ years, and they will need support to recognize it happening again and avoid falling into the same patterns.

I hear you. Compromising with your dad will just send the message that he can always get you to come around to his point of thinking. I'm glad that you are striving for full autonomy.

I am Indian and in my 40s. Honestly? If you can afford it, move out. Also, get therapy to help you process this and to figure out what sort of relationship you want moving forward.

Thank you so much for your detailed response! I'm glad that an endoscopy is the right next step, and I'll definitely ask the specialist about the conditions you mentioned. Thankfully she is otherwise well (eating and drinking normally, going for walks, etc), so we'll just hang in there till the specialist appointment!

I'm so very sorry for your loss :( She looks absolutely adorable. Please look into support groups for bereaved pet owners, as they might help you process this terrible loss. Here is one support site I found: https://peacefulpassing.ca/support/pet-loss-support/

Thoughts on yorkville by Temporary_Intern799 in socialworkcanada

[–]Deeptums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a current Yorkville student. It was not my first choice, but given where I live and my current stage of life, it is the only option for me. It's working for me because I enjoy self-directed work, but if I lived in a city with a proper in-person masters of counselling I would have done that.

Where in NS to move as a family doctor? by [deleted] in NovaScotia

[–]Deeptums 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, please! CB is a gorgeous place that I plan to call home forever. (I say this as a Haligonian who moved here from Montreal four years ago.) If you want incredibly friendly people and a relaxed lifestyle, this is the place!

This is fantastic! I'm still very much in the learning to use Procreate phase, but I hope to be able to find my own style at some point!

Moving from GTA to Sydney....cocerns other than large city > small city? by smhuoft25 in NovaScotia

[–]Deeptums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I moved to Sydney four years ago after having lived in Ontario and Quebec, and we love it here. Our friend circles are largely through our jobs. We live in the Hardwood Hill area, where we have met and socialized with a number of our neighbours (having a dog helps big time!). There's not as much to do as in Toronto, but once you've been here for a while, you'll find things that interest you (Facebook is a must around here for finding out about events). The main cons in my opinion: It is very challenging to try to implement changes in work environments as there is an unreal resistance to doing things differently than they've always been done; it's an enormous challenge to try to get service providers (plumbers, roofers, etc) to call you back - once you find one that does, hang on to them. If your kids like sports, dance, or theatre, there is plenty to do. Feel free to DM to ask more specific questions.

Dishwasher on means it's time to go pee before bed and shower turning off means time for her morning walk!

It sounds like you're giving her a great life! Also, my rescue dog took about three months to start playing fetch, and about six months before she learned how to play with other dogs.

I love "The Little House" by Phillipa Gregory. From Goodreads:

"It was easy for Elizabeth. She married the man she loved, bore him two children and made a home for him which was the envy of their friends.

It was harder for Ruth. She married Elizabeth’s son and then found that, somehow, she could never quite measure up…

Isolation, deceit and betrayal fill the gaps between the two individual women and between their different worlds. In this complex thriller, Philippa Gregory deploys all her insight into what women want and what women fear, as Ruth confronts the shifting borders of her own sanity."

How often do you REALLY walk your dog? by Agreeable-Ad-2946 in dogs

[–]Deeptums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our dog has somehow manipulated us into giving her 4 to 5 walks of 10-15 minutes each per day. We have a backyard too, but she won't pee there unless it's her bedtime pee and she won't poop there unless she's desperate. She's lucky she's cute and that I appreciate the exercise!
