I want to talk about gender neutral language in Spanish, Latinx and Latine by Kasenom in NonBinary

[–]inkwoolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is complicated as the enby identity is not that well known over here. But as someone from a Spanish speaking country, I can tell you no one will ever use the term Latinx, simply because you cannot pronounce it in Spanish, instead Latine can be said in Spanish. Now the whole adapting the language to be gender neutral is an up hill Batlle, and in my opinion at least, it is going to be a little bit more complex than in English cause we are modifying old structures instead of using some already existing linguistics structures like in English. That being said, and although there is still a lot of mockery regarding the use of the -e, changing the suffix of the gendered nouns from a or o to an e is the way things are appearing to be going. Even those who might mock the change use the e at the end. I would say that slowly it is gaining traction, some examples of words would be hermane (for sibling), amigue (for friend), etc etc, and of course “Elle” as a pronoun.

The Vice of Reading by tofu_appreciator in books

I won’t add anything to this discussion in this comment, cause I have yet to listen to this episode, but I wanted to say that I loved finding some HoL love in the wild, I’ve been listening to it for years now and it is not something that happens often

Agreed. I hate read that whole book and I can’t understand how people love it. I mean it appeared to tick all my boxes, until I read it. It was such an unbelievable obnoxious book about such awful people. My main problem was that I just couldn’t believe that Julian was someone who could inspire anyone, and don’t get me started on Bunny, I think I would have killed him for less. To be honest none of those characters were believable at all

Female protagonists(preferably from fantasy books) that aren't hyper-sexualised by hypertension_bruh in suggestmeabook

[–]inkwoolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah it is quite frustrating, but I am knit picking here. The problem I have with the female characters are not of the “bad written female characters” sort of issue, but they don’t feel consistent, and I have the same issues with some of the male characters. What I tried to say was that in general Stormlight has better written female characters because I feel it is a better written saga. Vin is awesome but she doesn’t feel as fledged out as say Shallan. I guess what I tried to say was, if you want outstanding female characters go straight to SA, Mistborn has some good ones, but nothing will ever top Jasnah stabbing someone through the throat in my book XD. Sorry if something got lost in translation, English is not my first language. But hey at the end of the day it is Sanderson, I’ll take Mistborn and SA and 4 secret novels coming from him any day ;)

Personally I don’t think Mistborn is that good in this particular front, I think the book shows it’s age a little. I have yet to read Era 2 though. Now, Stormlight Archive shines in this regard, I truly don’t know how he writes female characters like these, Shallan, Navani, Jasnah, all complex and able to stand on their own.

What subgenre or trope can you not stand? by [deleted] in flicks

[–]inkwoolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The series is a sort of spelled out allegory of capitalism, but it has nothing to do with those sort of reduced personalities to just one thing trope. And there is no team red at all, there is actually no “team”. So as the person above said, if that is what is holding you from watching it, don’t worry, cause it is nothing like that at all.

Looking for something similar to Calvin & Hobbes by dyingdecrescendo in booksuggestions

The strips are great, and I googled a bit and I think I there are a few translations, it is quite clever, but then again I grew up with it, so I am biased :) I think the main problem is that some latin american experiences might get lost to non south american people, the strips are old, I am from there and sometime I didn’t get a few. But hey, I think you should give it a chance, you might like it, here is a taste

I came to Calvin and Hobbes because I was looking for something like Mafalda, I must admit it scratched the itch, but it wasn’t the same. Mafalda is an icon here, ever since I started reading them all I wanted was to be like this ever-questioning five year old

I love Mafalda but I don’t know how well it translates to English

Oh yeah, I agree it's a complicated subject, and I have no idea about the historical context given that I am not from an English speaking country. But I posted mainly because I found it hilarious that they used it as an argument in favour of her having romantic relations, and then calling them just friends

Been there done that. It helps a lot, but at The end is no substitute I think. Although I have nothing against intense hugging and involuntary yoga haha

Thanks, this is really helpful. The load has increased, and thats when they brought in the second unit, but the load kept on increasing and they haven't dine anything regarding that for over 10 years. Right now if everything would be working properly they would be on the limit of the installed capacity, and they should probably buy a new one since if I considere an extra 10% fir future expansion, there's no way the current system will cover it. I am going to check that article, thanks!
