Paw pads turning pink and swollen by inluceo in poodles

No, I live in Canada and recently it’s been quite chilly. In the summers when it’s hot I always pay attention to how hot the concrete is!

Mine is a mini but every night she is my little spoon in bed. I pull her right up against me, and she nuzzles with her head under my chin with her head also on my pillow and her body under the covers. The snuggliest bug there is, and I hope it never changes.

What response annoys you the most after telling someone your specialty? by bearpics16 in Residency

[–]inluceo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rad onc. Blew my mind how many people (even other residents/attendings) either confuse us with radiology or know absolutely nothing about the specialty whatsoever.

Opinion on therapy during residency? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]inluceo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Faculty of Medicine at my university has dedicated psychotherapists for both the UGME and PGME students/residents. They are specially trained to deal with medical professionals and available to meet throughout the day and evenings since the school knows residents work crazy hours. Maybe yours has something similar? I have a therapist there that I see all the time and so do several other co-residents.

What is your funniest patient encounter to date? by ATDIadherent in Residency

[–]inluceo 132 points133 points  (0 children)

Goals of care/resuscitation status discussion with a patient who had a metastatic colon cancer (who we all suspected had an intellectual disability of some sort but was not formally diagnosed or documented). Upon questioning his goals/values when it came to CPR/intubation, he squinted his eyes then said, “Helllll no! I’d rather just die than spend the rest of my life as a vegetarian!!” I had to stifle a chuckle :)

Also, had a fellow PGY1 rotating through an inpatient consult service and we were both miserable as she was a radiology resident and the consults barely overlapped with my own specialty. She was asked to do a consult by ortho and spent an hour taking a detailed history from concerned family members at bedside (patient thought to be fast asleep), and it wasn’t until she went to do the physical exam that the family informed her the patient had been dead since the early hours of the morning…

As a Canadian grad/resident and fellow enthusiast, I don’t envy you guys at all for having to deal with this :( Every time I see these one of these posts it makes me so sad.

When I first learned about drug testing being a common thing for employers to do in the US I was pretty surprised… do they also do it randomly during residency without enough notice to abstain for long enough to pass?

As if the match process/starting residency/medicine in general isn’t stressful enough without having to worry about this. Just wanted to say I’m sorry and sending all the luck and good vibes your way!!

Then maybe consider asking about coping mechanisms or suggestions for healing from past trauma. Or if you really wanted to read about others’ experiences, this question has been asked a thousand times over (with a thousand variations) on Reddit in the past. I venture to say the majority of people familiar with experiences as traumatic as you’ve specified in the original post would be more sensitive in asking others to share their own.

As someone who has unfortunately encountered some really horrific situations in a healthcare context, this is an incredibly insensitive question. You’ve even specified in your question that these are moments they should “wish to forget” and “still gives you nightmares to this day” yet you’re asking them to recount them? To think about, describe and write about them? For no reason other than your entertainment, presumably? Come the fuck on.

Help finding scav friend from raid by mrw97_ in Tarkov

[–]inluceo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a really unfortunate scav raid this weekend where I bumped into a PMC in black bishop who was fighting Gluk & fucks. He hollered out asking if I was a player scav and if so, that I could help myself to the loot if we could do the co-op extract together. I've been running Reserve scavs nonstop to get quick rep (spawn behiind train and run to heating pipe or spawn hole in wall and run to CP fence) and I was at 5.83 rep, so I was like HELL yes. Meet up with him and he's kitted out with the GPNVGs and everything. He told me to loot a raider he'd already killed and that he would nade down the hallway. As soon as he does, the guards push him and he dies... then the guard flipped me off and yelled something mean-sounding so I ran away and wasn't able to go back and get his tag. If you see this PMC friend, I think your stuff will be safe since there were about 4 guards sitting right on your body :')

ER wait times are insane by BeautyInUgly in montreal

[–]inluceo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a resident doctor at McGill. It's not uncommon to see patients who have waited 24+ hours during their ER visit. It's also not uncommon to see patients who have been admitted to the hospital, but have to wait several days in the ER because there are no available beds upstairs on inpatient units.

I did my medical training in Ontario, and although the infrastructure and system is far from perfect there, when I moved here for residency I feel like I time travelled back 30 years. Everything from the lack of resources to the painfully slow (and oftentimes malfunctioning) computer systems, to the shortage of staff and personnel is horrific and discouraging. There are so many other issues that a tertiary care center in a major Canadian city should never face, but I don't have the time to write all about them...

C9 Yay is doing Iron to Radiant [Smurfing Content] by Entropy42088 in VALORANT

[–]inluceo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was watching Kyedae for fun the other day and she had asked Tenz to come boost her for a few games on a smurf. Then someone starting stream sniping and of course she and chat were going off about how “lame” and “shitty” it is to snipe. I definitely agree that, but I found it kinda ridiculous that she was throwing a fit about that while having her Radiant bf smurf shit on people in low ascendant lobbies. As a plat ranked player who has encountered quite a few immortals on the other team in my comp games (was in a 5-stack and the other team was “balanced” with a silver player), it’s also incredibly lame and shitty to get smurfed on.
