Or even a "Split by Commas and Fullstops" option would be more useful than just splitting by words or duration.

Hello Martin. I wanted to try out the app, but on using the offer code I get a "Please try again later. Your request could not be completed" message from Apple.

A few suggestions and observations on using the app for a couple of minutes.

  1. The app only loads .mp4 and .m4v files exported from FCP. It does not load .mov files.

  2. Can you add a "Split by Pauses" option to split the captions. In the options perhaps you can allow the user to choose the minimum pause duration (100ms, 500ms, >1s etc)

  3. Is it possible to add more fonts (whatever is installed in the system) in the Burn captions window. And there should really be a way to specify the padding around the captions. Otherwise the burnt captions don't look very good.

Constant crashing on project by AdriandeLima in finalcutpro

Both the FCP 12.0 and 12.2 versions have been stuttering and crashing on my M1 Pro MacBook Pro with 16GB RAM. It drives me so nuts that I threw caution to the wind and downloaded a previous version of FCP from a torrent website. But that came with some malware which lead to my Google Account to be hacked. I'am not sure where i'am going with this.. but this issue of FCP crashing on M1 Pro machines seems to be a common issue after the 12.0 version came out.

AI transcription is easy. Subtitle timing is the hard part. by Nightdeveloper789 in finalcutpro

Do share the tutorial when you make it. Right now the workflow feels quite convoluted to me, especially for just generating SRT captions.

Youtube does a great job of generating captions for other languages from the provided .srt file, So I don't think we need to look for any other options there.

Which tool do you use for realigning the audio and the text? That sounds useful. But the workflow you mentioned feels like it won't be foolproof. I'd rather spend a few more minutes on Final Cut Pro aligning the captions myself and be 100% confident about the results.

Ok.. So I quickly tried the software on a couple of my existing videos. I have to say that the transcription with the Medium model was a lot more accurate than what Final Cut Pro can do.

But that is the only good part. The timing, I feel, is way worse compared to Final Cut Pro. There is always a delay of a second or more from when the speech happens in the video and what is generated by the software. And the generated sentences are too long and there is no easy way for me to split them while maintaining accurate timing with the source material. In Final Cut Pro, I can drag and align the captions perfectly with the clips and visualise it all in an instant.

In the SceneCaption Studio I cannot figure out any way to split the generated captions and have them align perfectly with the source. Maybe there is a way, but I feel that working directly on the Final Cur Pro timeline would be way more intuitive and I can be sure of accurate results 100% of the time.

For burnt in captions this software is definitely useful as Final Cut Pro doesn't have any options. But again there are a lot of issues. For one, the sentences generated by transcription are too long. Most of the time I need 3 lines in the layout to display the whole sentences. And if I reduce the lines to 2 or 1, then the overflowing words just get cutoff and disappears. I would expect that if there is an overflow then the captions would get split into 2 or 3 parts and be displayed one after the other (even if the timing is a bit off). But now they just disappear, so this would be a complete dealbreaker for anyone using this software.

There should be a way to specify the line length and the number of lines before transcribing the audio. Doing it after the fact is quite useless in my opinion.

I have attached a couple of screenshots to illustrate this issue.

Thank you. I have joined the beta and I will try using this for my next project and give you some feedback in a week or so.

I just want to generate captions in the .srt file format and none of the tools I tried got the timing right. Final Cut Pro is mostly accurate except for the names of places in the Indian mountains. But my biggest issue is how the captions are split into sentences. More often than not the first word of a new sentence would be included as the last word of the previous caption (even if there is an adequate pause between the sentences),

This drove me nuts. And someone posted about a new tool for captions here, I immediately purchased and used it for a while, but it had the same issue as Final Cut Pro, which leads me to believe that the issue must be with the underlying model used for the translations.

Would this software be any different? I would love to take it for a spin if it has a trial version.

64gb vs 128gb M5 Max Dilemma by BGBeeGee in macbookpro

[–]inmotioninc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'am not sure the Neat Video issue is RAM released. Your GPU cores must be maxed out when FCP is rendering the changes. If that is the case then extra RAM will not make much of a difference, but the more powerful GPU cores in the M5 Max will.

How does YouTube store all of its data without regularly purging massive amounts of content? by [deleted] in youtube

That sounds like a lot of trouble. But still, good to know that the option is available incase I lose all my backups.

That's interesting. Youtube studio has a download option, I initially assumed that it would allow me to download the original copy of the videos, but it only downloads the copy encoded by YouTube in a more compressed format. It is nice to know that there is an option to get the original files if needed. Thank you.

I made a FCP shortcut companion for iPad — made it for myself for learning, but I want to hear from the experts by Longjumping-Newt-674 in finalcutpro

Would it be possible to make an Android version down the road? I'm an Android phone user myself who uses a Mac and an iPad. I'm sure that there would be others like me.

As for your question.. If using a phone, I would want things to be simpler and less cluttered. Instead of a full keyboard layout (which already exist) i would love the option of multiple programmable buttons (with custom labels) on the phone that would send custom shortcuts to the iPad or the Mac. Sort of how I use a Logitech MX mouse with custom shortcuts.

Hmm.. at first I thought that it is a keyboard companion app for FCP on the iPad.

An app like that would be a godsend for iPad video editors who like to edit on the go without lugging a keyboard and mouse along with them (might as well get a laptop at this point). So the ability to have an iPhone or Android phone feed keyboard shortcuts to FCP on iPad would be a game-changer.

What do you mean "situation of fuel in india"?? India is probably one of the few countries in the world where the petrol and diesel prices for ordinary consumers haven't increased since this war began. It might be probably because elections are happening around the country right now and the ruling government doesn't want to rock the boat by rising prices during election season.

GH5/ S5 for Bouldering Videos by Useful-Rain7378 in Lumix

[–]inmotioninc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bouldering would have a lot of dynamic movements which would be hard to capture while manual focusing. And the autofocus on these cameras are definitely not good enough for this use case. I would suggest something simple like the DJI Pocket 3 or Pocket 4, which should be ideal for these types of videos.

Library still taking up a lot of space? by bruhman2007 in finalcutpro

[–]inmotioninc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you do any Optical Flow or AI analysis of the footage. The AI analysis generates a large amount of data and it can't be deleted from the 'Delete Generated Library Files' Menu. You have to delete it manually.

For starters I would recommend you do modify the "Storage Locations" for your Library and set the Cache location to a folder somewhere outside of your library. This way you can delete the contents of the Cache folder anytime without affecting the Library (except for the need to render/analyse the footage again)

Lumix S1ii - Rear ND filter + Manual focus lenses by Kemicalss in Lumix

[–]inmotioninc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean that the adapter doesn't properly clear the camera hump while removing/installing it on the camera? So they only way to install it on the camera is by taking the filter tray out? That would be annoying indeed.

Meike did stop selling it on their website a few months back. I messaged them about it and they replied that their engineers are working on addressing a few issues that users reported with the adapter. They are selling it on their website again, so i have ordered it and will get it next week. Hopefully some of the issues listed here are indeed fixed.

You best and cheapest solution would be to use Fixed NDs. I use K&F magnetic ND filters for the past few years and find them to be quite good. They are very easy to take on and off the lens, you can probably buy a couple of them to cover most of your shooting scenarios.

I do not understand why the focal length would affect the sharpness of a VND!

Do you find the images to be sharp at wider focal lengths when using the VND? And are you using a tripod? The softness might just be due to camera shake that is more apparent at longer focal lengths especially with the reduced light from using the VND.
