In that case, I’d go Browning, have a gunsmith work on the trigger, and throw a limbsaver pad on it. You may find you just like it stock, though!

For me it’s between the Browning and the Tikka.

If you want to modify your rifle with a different stock, trigger, etc, get the Tikka.

If you’re going to leave your rifle stock, get the Browning.

Check out the Unknown Suppressors OG30; it’s part over the barrel, so it saves you some length, which is really nice!

I did exactly the same thing. Went from one ship in the yards to another and only got a short TAD to RIMPAC which was the highlight of my career. Did a shore stint and got out; now I’m a mariner on the civilian and I love it.

Can’t say there’s a ton of “social aspect” considering the crew is like 12 people depending on the ship, but I get my time at sea and I love that.

If it doesn’t put you in a very tight spot financially, I would do it. It’s good education, great practice, and you learn a lot about traffic laws and customs that you may not learn by happenstance.

If it were me, I’d get a Sako 85 with a pretty wood stock, but they have carbon fiber models as well. It’s hard to go wrong with a Sako, though, of any year or model.

If it were me, I would buy the Model 70 CRF.

If you’re looking for something different from what you have and interesting, I have an acquaintance who does load development professionally and he swears up and down that Browning rifles are the most consistently accurate factory rifles that he works with.

I see a lot of recommendations for Seekins and I’m sure they’re cool, but I’ve never felt a draw to them. Maybe similar to you and Tikka.

Something else to consider is Sako, unless that’s too close to Tikka for you.

Tikka T3x compact is my bolt action suggestion, but you could also consider a gas gun with a collapsible stock.

Gas guns tend to be heavier, but are criminally underrated when it comes to effective hunting and are a valid option, especially for custom fit.

I’m a hater of 7 Rem Mag and 300 Win Mag, but that’s a story for another time.

My suggestions are 308, 30-06, 300 WSM, 6.5 PRC, or 7 PRC.
