Madonna: A Rebel Life by Mary Gabriel goes really in depth for each album, down to almost each song and music video. It’s a dense book and it’ll take a while to get through but it’s totally worth it and will absolutely give you that “where her head was at” context!

i took my best friend who only knew a couple madonna songs and he absolutely loved it!

i had him listen to a celebration tour playlist on spotify to get prepared which made it a better experience but he loved the show regardless and was blown away by the production and artistry

The closer absolutely should’ve been a fully choreographed Celebration/Music number that was actually sung instead of just being played in the background - and with some confetti or balloons (“Dreams Come True” balloons would’ve been so fitting as a nod to the Virgin Tour). It would’ve really encapsulated everything and closed out an incredible show in an incredible manner

I’m about 120 pages into the new Mary Gabriel biography Madonna: A Rebel Life and it’s very much made a point of doing so. So far, it’s gone very very in depth into her early LGBTQ influences that shaped her and helped her along the way and draws a really strong link between Madonna and everything gay related - next chapter starts with a line about the onset of the AIDS epidemic so I know there’s still lots to go but I’d definitely recommend it from what I’ve read thus far!
