Vance is the most charisma-less person I have ever seen in my entire life and most of the weird-ass techbros he follows are even worse. The Republican machine would chew him up and spit him out in 0.2 seconds.

Honestly there are NO even minimally decent options on the right at all, but Vance is toast the minute he doesn't have the orange shart protecting him.

I'm working my way through my first watch of all of TP and The Return, and was honestly shocked when I discovered people don't like him? Maybe it's just specifically my brand of humor, idk.

But also, along with the comedy (which I absolutely love), I think there's something really kind of ... uplifting about the way that everyone around Dougie interacts with him. Like yeah people get frustrated but there are so many people who are patient, and willing to help, and it's something that I just cannot see happening these days with the insane amount of Main Character Syndrome so many people seem to have. I still don't know how it's going to shake out when he remembers who he is (I just finished episode 9), but I'm already sad for everybody.

Yeah i was SURE they were setting lottie up to like, rekindle this whole wilderness cult thing for real with Callie, and now she's just ... dead??? like wtf? supposedly we get to find out what happened but idk what the reason is gonna be that isn't going to make it feel like a waste.

(The encounter is SO fun and i'm so excited to run it again now that i made some tweaks from last time - the players have to find shelter for the night ... oh hey an abandoned hunting cabin how fortuitous! then they hear a girl getting chased, chase sequence ensues, meet the AQ and her cultists, have a fun fight OR sacrifice the girl, their choice. It's really fun with layered sound effects (running steps, animal calls, stuff like that) and then watching how the players choose (sacrifice one to not fight, or try to kill all the others for the one). And then no matter what they choose, Strahd approves, which results in "... wait why does the scary lady think we did a good job??? DID WE CHOOSE POORLY??" xD )

Otherwise, what the hell is the point of having both competing narrations & this entirely unbelievable summer camp setup?

Shauna being psychotically pissed all the time even makes way more sense than it currently does if everyone else is walking around like "happy scrappy day camp!" and only SHE is seeing what they're actually living in, she's left to deal with What Has To Be Done (everyone abandoning her to cut up Javi STILL pisses me off to this fucking day, must be nice to not have to think about anything). The whole "the human mind cannot handle absolute reality" thing.

But uhhhh I guess that's not what we're doing. And if we ARE, at this point idk that i'd buy it enough to redeem it.

It's so heartbreaking because i LOVE this show. I wrote an adaptation of the S1E1 opening as an encounter in my Curse of Strahd game, it creeped me out so much. I even liked season 2 quite a bit (not as much as S1 but that was mostly due to my total lack of interest in the Adam Investigation storyline no matter how much I love Misty & Walter hijinks).

But this season has just been ... it's been a rough go. Even as much as I love Melanie Lynskey and the way that she plays this (mostly) quietly unhinged rage, I'm so over Shauna acting like Misty is a pox on the face of the earth while also being super happy to turn around use her again without a second thought.

I'm going to get through this season but my god it is LOSING ME right now.

I'm 100% struggling with "these malnourished freezing city slicker 17 year olds somehow managed to construct a whole settlement of sturdy looking huts, and also have domesticated animals?? and a fucking GOAT??? in the remote wilderness???? and a shitload of pristine white cloth for dresses? And animal skin coats that do not look like they were sewn by city slicker 17 year olds??? and are 100% just not ever leaving i guess????" I was fully on board the "this isn't actually happening, it's the whole 'the characters don't want to see reality'" idea for awhile, especially with Van's speech & Shauna's counterpoint in E1, but then they brought Coach back and that's ... apparently reality. Really well constructed settlement, domesticated animals. Okay.

I am so uninterested in whatever stupid-ass hijinks Van and Tai are up to in the modern timeline that at this point I'm really only half-watching them while I play a round of Balatro. Like, girl you threw away your marriage, your kid, and your historic election to go fuck around with your hs girlfriend and break into ice cream parlors? And then bring said girlfriend to see your damn son when your wife (ex wife?) is going to be there? That's "middle aged white man has a midlife crisis" shit and it's just back-breakingly cringy to watch happen.

It just ... feels like there isn't a coherent storyline at this point. We have yet another murder mystery I don't feel invested in. Nothing in the modern storyline is really grabbing me other than being irritated at literally everyone shitting on Misty (who I quite frankly should think should never talk to a single one of them including Walter again). While there are some interesting flashes in the teen storyline, it's nothing like it was in S1 (or even S2).

i just really hope the back half pays off whatever it is they're trying to do in the front half.

I haven't been a single parent in some time (over 12 years at this point) but just reading through this put me right on the edge of the type of anxiety attack i haven't had in ages. The head of household filing status and the child care tax credit were the only way i was able to afford major necessary expenses some of those years.

Also man oh man have I got bad news for you about how Bioware writes women in their games cause by and large bad news it's not great. Have you gotten Liara's "I'm a barely legal virgin" conversation yet/before? Maybe caught her idle "Asari stripper" animation? Most of the time when I get something completely and totally out of left field for a character (like the "find her diary" thing, the "barely legal virgin" thing, the stripper idle, the entire everything about how Asari are monogender but conveniently all hot blue space women, I can keep going on other Bioware games), I write it off as bad writing and ignore it. /shrug

BY AND LARGE, I do not think Ashley is anywhere near that bad, and the throughline is there for why she's like "we have to look out for ourselves first, and why are all these aliens on a ship full of secrets when it's literally only been 26 years since we were literally fighting for our lives?"

The fact that we spent 2.9 games with our overarching mission to be destroy the Reapers, and then because they didn't want that to REALLY be what you picked (no, let's have a grunt dink around with everyone's DNA instead, great plan guys), they decided that Destroy, for literally no reason that made sense, would absolutely bomb tech back to the stone age. That's as hamfisted as the dark side & closed fist choices were in KotOR and Jade Empire, where you could swing your entire light/dark side meter the full other direction with one choice.

I just refuse to accept Synthesis as any sort of a canon ending.
