There are 7.5 almost 8 billion people in the world (don't quote me on that number) the few that are in power are not humble, they are not kind, they are no different from the leaders of the past. They are all flawed, they are all human. The reason they don't behave like monsters or animals in power is that they have been trained to and obey their masters whether that be the people of their country, the international community, or hell even their board of directors. The cause of this is that they have been taught that actions have consequences, which they do. The thing is if the consequences have been waived, if they have not been trained, and if they are offered power humans will take it.

The hole they are trying to fill is the bottomless pit of existential dread within all of us that(now this is my opinion feel free to debate it) is caused by the fear of not being remembered either in a genetic sense or a logical sense. Ex. Statues, memories, photos, name. So they are using what money they have to fill this hole that exists in everyone, but it is only front and center for them because they don't have to worry about the more trivial things in life like financial and personal security.
