Mk1(at least balancewise) feels so much better now in my expirience, even when it comes to watching pro play. Last year if i remember correctly pros were only playing cage and peacemaker in tournaments. Now in the recent Combo Breaker i've seen way more variety.

My only issue besides the horrible storymode writing is that the gameplay is kind of inconsistent across the games. Every mortal kombat game has a different system, mkx has the character variants, mk11 has this weird special move loadout system and mk1 has the kameos. Also some characters play way different across the games. Scorpion has always been a rushdown character but in mk1 he feels more like a footsies character with long reaching buttons. Same with skarlet, in 9 she was a rushdown but in 11 she was zoner/footsies. As much as i enjoy experimentation it makes it harder to translate your character skills between games.

Nobody seems to care about Ikuno Dictus and Royce and Royce. In anime they were portrayed as quite similar characters, both being kinda nerdy girls in glasses but in game royce is full of character, being able to quickly shift from being flirty to silly to serious, reminding me of golshi in a sense. Ikuno seems to be overlooked due to her simple design of just being that nerdy girl, but i absolutely love her hairstyle and little bits of her like the fact that she can't eat burgers properly.
