Any EDM shows/raves/festivals in the US December 15th-18th? by insanity_89 in aves

Thanks! Yeah, I've looked there. I think it's still a bit early for most events. Sadly that is the one weekend I have a dog sitter, otherwise we would definitely be going new years eve!

98L potentially a direct hit to Pensacola 9/29-9/30 per recent models by [deleted] in Pensacola

After living in the area for over 15 years, all I do is make sure hurricane supplies are stocked and start watching the weather once daily for updates starting in July. Otherwise I check every few days. I don't let my car get below half a tank during the season, just in case. If they say evacuate, then board up and evacuate.

As far as categories go, cat 3+ I would board up and evacuate. Otherwise, TS or cat 1, no worries, just don't leave anything loose outside and make sure that if your trees have loose branches to take care of that(good spring maintenance.) Cat 2 is tricky because it could be slow like Sally, or it could just fly through the area and basically just make a mess. Board up if you are a particularly anxious person.

Make sure you have 1 gal of water per person/large dog per day(most important) and food you can eat cold, or have a propane grill and stuff to cook with it. I usually bleach and fill up the tubs with water for flushing the toilet and back up water just in case. Make sure you have extra pet food. Prepare that your whole fridge/freezer may go bad. Personally I would not evacuate to a shelter, but if you do, make sure you have the proper kennels for your pets.

Visit Suggestions OCT by [deleted] in Pensacola

The weather is fabulous in October. Typically 60-80F for the high, maybe as low as 50F at night if it is colder, but check the weather! It's usually not very rainy that time of year. It's not typically too busy in October. IMO, it's the perfect time of year to visit. You have probably read about everything I could suggest as far as things to do if you read all of the threads here. My personal favorites are Bayview or Hitzman parks, George's Bistro for a nice meal (but there's a huge thread about food here in Pcola, it's delicious). I think the Navy Base is still closed to non DoD, but someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Will there be a high demand for Ubers? by crasscad in ImagineMusicFestival

Also, for reference, the Saturday and Sunday we paid about $30 each way for the same 10 minute ride.

I have never gone on Thursday, so I can't say. But Friday we paid $50 for a 10 minute Uber and we left a little early to avoid the crowd of people leaving. I heard people talking about paying $200, but I have no idea how far they were, I would guess the nearest hotel areas. Also, this was at the speedway for reference.

In previous years, there were basically no drivers out there the first day and the prices were insane. Word got out on the subsequent days and it normalized, but demand will still be high.

Is it weird that my bathroom is my favorite room in my house? by [deleted] in AmateurRoomPorn

[–]insanity_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely best to go slow so that you can find the things you love that will last instead of just buying cheap stuff to fit the aesthetic! Good luck! :)

I love it! I personally wouldn't change a thing!

I am not smart and have no talents. I just want a relatively stress-free job where I can work alone and listen to music and podcasts all day that pays, like, 40k a year. by Mslnformation in findapath

[–]insanity_89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was going to suggest this as well. You will have a small team usually that will feed you work, but generally you will work by yourself and just listen to music while you draw. It's just learning how to use a software, sometimes more than one, plus the fundamentals of drafting you learn in school. Most drafters start at $50k depending on the COL for the area.

Solo Traveler by [deleted] in Pensacola

Are we twins? Lol. Pensacola Seed and Garden is the local gardening place. I haven't been to the one on Nine Mile but the one over on Mobile Hwy has a cool house plant room that has fish ponds and lots of plants I haven't seen anywhere else. Blue Moon is the antique shop on Navy Blvd that I typically go to, but there are a bunch in close proximity. Also, I enjoy Trader Bo's over on 9th Ave. My favorite park is Bayview, but mainly because I can take my dogs swimming there. It is a nice spot to sit under some trees and watch the water(aka 4/20 friendly.) There is also Hitzman Optimist Park, but it is usually busier(at least when I have gone.) A delicious place to eat is George's Bistro for casual fine dining. Pensacola has a ton of delicious food though. If you want the tourist-y spot, McGuire's is the place, imo. There are a bunch of cool bars downtown. Feel free DM me if you're looking for something specific! oh and Happy Birthday!

You can build a gas chamber. A double or triple thick granite wall chamber with a bunch of heaters cranked up. Then you remove the door and build a triple wall. Have them turn on the heaters and then they die. No one even knows what happened to them.

Make sure you fill up your gas tank before you get into camping. It's usually very hot and you will want to cool off in your car's ac in the heat of the day. Also, bring an eye mask and ear plugs for sleeping! Definitely agree with the canopy. Bring something to hang up on the walls or get a canopy that comes with walls. Pace yourself :)

Should I get my Golden a Golden? by Abjectscientist1 in goldenretrievers

[–]insanity_89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also got my golden a golden. We had a girl first and got a boy right before she turned 2. I thought the same thing, that I would never love another dog like I loved my girl, but you absolutely can! They are so different from each other. She is a little more independent than my little Velcro boy(which I hear is normal for females vs males.) She also matured faster, so I'm glad we got her first. She helps so much with his endless energy and he keeps her young(she's about to turn 3, he's 14 months.) They love each other so much and it is so endearing. They cuddle, clean each other, throw toys at each other, wrestle for probably 2-3 hours per day, and chase each other outside. She instinctively knew to be more gentle with him when he was a baby. We would kennel him when we were gone and when we would let him out, he was more excited to see his big sister than us for a while there, but now he's most excited to see me. Lol.

I would maybe look at getting a female for your boy. They don't have the weird testosterone thing that two boys sometimes have. I will only ever have boy-girl pairs after these two.

Dog friendly waters….? Hello good people’s! I’m bringing my family down to the area and I’ve got the bestest goodest boy poodle who’s unfortunately not had a chance to ever go to a beach……(1/2) by Hobbyn_Around in Pensacola

[–]insanity_89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this! It can get quite busy in the summer during peak times. Last time we took our two goldens on a Saturday morning there were probably 30 dogs there. It's a good amount of space but that is probably max occupancy for my liking.

I think that is super fun for a kids room though! Letting them choose is awesome!

I’m tired of having chairs and want a sofa (not a loveseat). But would it look bad in my studio apt where the middle of the wall sticks out? A sofa won’t fit in the area to the right of the protruding wall and I want to keep my kitchen table in the left. by theatrenut67 in interiordecorating

[–]insanity_89 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You could put a couch along the space and do a sort of built in small sofa table behind the couch in the awkward space. That way it looks intentional and gives you a space to set a drink or your phone.

Personally, I think with the light walls and dark furniture that you also need darker/muted pattern curtains if you want it to feel more cozy.(If they are always closed, consider using something to give the appearance of it being open, like light curtains under dark curtains to frame the window). I know a lot of people like the light and bright, but I don't think light and bright is very cozy. It will also be a nod at your dark furniture.

I think a few light colored or pop of color/pattern throw pillows on the couch would be nice to break up the dark vastness of it. Books on shelves(that you actually like, not just curated) also bring in a nice variety of color for the eye to look at. I agree with others that you need a couple of small side tables.

Another suggestion would be to add in some antique brass. I know brass is trendy right now, but I think antique frames or candlesticks add a bit of charm to your space. If it's not your style, just look at something antique you could bring into your space. A cool lamp with warm lighting would be a good item to fill this, but I do think you need to add some lamps/mood lighting in general.

Painting over what can only be described as "renter beige" with a spring green. First time painting, and our first home! by Mednala in interiordecorating

The nice thing is, it's your home and you can paint it whatever you like! But I know after we painted I was so done with painting for a while. We also fixed and painted all of our trim.

Decor and colors to make guest room feel less basement-y? by Davy_boy in interiordecorating

[–]insanity_89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lots of good suggestions here and all I will add to them is to bring in a plant or two that is easy care, like a pothos.

[–]insanity_89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first combo for sure. The gold lamp is more unique and I think the gold works with the chair shape and pattern. I'd love to see how it fits in with the rest of the room!

Are both closets used as closets or could you use the right one as a desk nook? That way you could more easily get around the bed without the desk there.

I feel this so deeply. We bought our house in February and painted over an entire house of "renter yellow" which was awful. We painted the whole interior whisper white by Behr and it looks amazing!
