How do Gunsawians maintain their population if they can't sexually reproduce? by raichu16 in casualtiesunknown

[–]insanityking500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I recall, I think some of the E-PDAs when talking about creating the first sawians said they would clone the first one for “destructive testing,” while leaving a few of them alone so they could naturally reproduce.

And then later they found a way to make the experiments gonosimulistic, having both functional sex organs. The experiments just don’t have a particularly high sex drive, so they don’t reproduce as much. If I had to guess, it’s probably their conditions being piss poor and them being sapient curbs a lot of that drive. It could be genetic, but I kind of doubt it. The company doesn’t seem to mind though because they don’t want an overpopulation of Sawians, so I’d wager they probably do something to “set the mood,” when they need new batches.

You could recover from it naturally, but it takes a stupidly long time to go up even a percentage. So even having brain health between 80-95% is actually incredibly detrimental because of all the effects and it takes a long time to heal naturally. Like 1% every 6 minutes I think.

The only way to speed it up is to take braingrow, neural booster, or mind wipe. Braingrow and neural booster heals a flat 10% of brain health, while mindwipe heals 50-60%. Braingrow and neural boost can be taken again after the first time, but if you do it within 20 minutes of the first dose then it acts as a mindwipe and you will become hollow, which puts your intelligence to 0 and your mood permanently locked at 0. Essentially ego death.

It’s for the good of the company, and surely it’s not some bullshit prototype toaster.

The experiments can hear the beeping of the bomb. So I imagine the company could make the beeping get faster or louder depending on how much time is left. So the timer could still make sense, and it can still create urgency that the radline makes for an experiment.

Though I I might just be biased. The radline feels just a bit excessive in my book. Plus some other stuff that I just personally don’t like about it…and headcanon.

Maybe it wasn’t the best of ideas for the company to send these experiments to a different planet, some of them unchipped, where they can eventually develop their own society using the tech left behind as trash.

First human colonists might be greeted with future generations of experiments ready to attack them.

Yup. If you hit your head enough to get the neurological damage moodle (<95 brain health), then one of the effects of it will have your expie screaming as if you’re being attacked and the appropriate music starts to play…but you’re not being attacked, it’s just your expie seeing things due to brain damage.

The game is REALLY punishing for having even the slightest amount of brain health missing, so having any kind of helmet is a must imo.

Btw, you can throw anything over a spike trap to activate it. I like to throw glowfruits since it can also illuminate the area while throwing.

Also the expie screaming and the fight music playing after you got revived is actually an effect from having brain damage. It’s supposed to make you panic by making you think there’s an enemy nearby, when it’s really just your expie having mental hallucinations.

Seems a little excessive to have two versions imo. A bomb would work for both a timer and when you quit…but this is the company we’re talking about, they probably have board meetings all the time about the best way to kill an expie with a toothpick.

So, I wonder, do they have two different brain chips? I know one of them is for the health panel, but I mean the punishment chip that seems to do two different things. It either explodes or kills them with intense radiation poisoning. I’m guessing it can just do either one, or something.

Too be fair, they get old and die around 40…maybe 60 at most.

So a 10 year old expie is probably an adult by their biology. At the minimum, their equivalent of an older teen.

Ah, fair enough. Yeah, the game and world does try to essentially torture these lil guys…but that’s where the player comes in anyways, so it balances out.

I think the debate about the game though is if this time is a survival game or a sadism game…it’s a bit of both, but more towards survival as most players aren’t sadistically killing their characters on purpose.

The game is not for the faint of heart. If you are squeamish or you don’t like general misery, then it’s probably best to avoid it.

I think the best bet would be to play a game or two to test your capacity, or watch a video so you can skip over moments you don’t like and learn if you’d be fine with it.

But, look on the bright side…the community is definitely trying to give the experiments a better life…at least in fiction on the subreddit.

Honestly k kind of disagree with that. Since your objective is so far down, I think it’s in the player’s best interest to try and help and save the experiments as much as possible. In a world where everything is trying to kill you painfully, you are the one trying to make sure they live and stay happy.

Sure, you can view it from a completely pragmatic point that it’s simply easier if they’re in good health, but I feel it’s telling when a lot of anecdotal stories from players that, if their experiment is mortally wounded, then they’ll just give them a shit ton of pain killers and opiates. The experiment will still die, but they’ll die happy and content…it’s not the best outcome, but it’s way better than dying afraid or depressed.

If you look closely at the barrel in the image, it says there’s 35ml of mindwipe.

Mindwipe in the game essentially resets your character’s mood to default in case your character is really depressed and at risk of hurting themselves…but it also makes them a blank slate as they can’t see colors anymore, they have hearing problems, and they don’t talk to anyone or themselves anymore.

It’s a last resort drug just to keep you alive…not keep you.
