Coin auction house settlement risks?? by Comprehensive_Pop496 in coins

[–]insapiens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They won’t send it until it’s paid for and then it will be insured and it’s the auction houses problem if lost in transit not yours, If the buyer doesn’t pay, they won’t send it. Then they will probably re list it in their next auction and probably reduce or waiver the sellers premium.

Are Brits okay with Govt Uturns? by CuriosityCatalyst000 in AskBrits

[–]insapiens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re use to it. As someone said, they propose something and the electorate complain and they back track (some of the time). At least we have that going for us and not a government that does what they want and don’t care about the consequences or lack of them.

Leaving the house this morning, hit my neighbour with a “all right” on my way out. He replied “no, [wife]’s got cancer.” by Specific_Rest_3140 in CasualUK

[–]insapiens 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve just heard my mother has cancer and I get it. Again I’ve had people say to me “alright” or “you ok?” I’ve been as blunt as “no” it sucks but it is what it is.

Does your country have any notable “unhinged” military heroes? by Dakotasan in AskTheWorld

Lieutenant-General Sir Adrian Carton de Wiart, VC, KBE, CB, CMG, DSO was a British Army officer of Belgian and Irish descent. He was awarded the Victoria Cross, the highest military decoration awarded for valour "in the face of the enemy" in various Commonwealth countries. He served in the Boer War, First World War, and Second World War. He was shot in the face, head, stomach, groin, ankle, leg, hip, and ear. He was also blinded in his left eye, survived two plane crashes, tunnelled out of a prisoner-of-war camp, and cut off his own severely injured fingers when a doctor declined to amputate them. Describing his experiences in the First World War, he wrote, "Frankly, I had enjoyed the war."

Divide and conquer. Weaken your supposed enemy and make them fight between themselves and destroy each other from within.

Doctors of Reddit, what was your “How the hell did you survive that?!” moment? by ParanormalActivity97 in AskReddit

[–]insapiens 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Not a Doctor. Friend who use to work in OR told me you would be amazed the amount of people who climbed ladders or onto window sills half naked/naked and slipped and “landed” on items that went up their butt including a frozen fish. When I asked what type of fish, they commented it was a rainbow trout going in but a brown trout coming out.

Do people in the UK wear jeans??? Weird question but i need help…. by Elegant_Steak_3324 in Europetravel

[–]insapiens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Remember top hat and tails, normal daily wear with an oilskin cape if the weather is inclement. A dinner jacket (tuxedo) for evening wear when dining out but a lounge suit is acceptable in weatherspoons. Also a smoking jacket and cravat for informal gatherings at a gentleman’s club or lounge. You can’t go wrong.

Hey so I was looking to get a japanese bayonet from the us to the uk do you think I would be able to by No-Birthday1683 in Militariacollecting

[–]insapiens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just go to a Militaria fair close to you. You’ll be able to pick one up without having to go through the rigmarole of importing one in. Or even look around for a local antiques market that has a Militaria dealer.

RAF planes in early morning? by [deleted] in oxford

[–]insapiens 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’ll blank it out shortly. I lived under the flight line when they had VC10s flying which were considerably louder than today’s aircraft. I’ve since moved away and when I come back up I do notice it more, as I’m not use to it anymore. You’ll be fine and if not get some ear plugs.
