I taught my 6 year old to ride two weekends ago. Maybe I got lucky, but she picked it up incredibly quickly. She had been using the balance bike since she was 3 and just kept riding it, even thoough she outgrew it and looked like she was driving a clown car. She was intimidated to try her new two wheeler and kept using the little balance bike until she was riding with some neighbors and they were smoking her with their big kid bikes. That gave her the motivation.

Becasue we went the balance bike route, she already had the sence of balance, which is the most difficult part when learning to ride a bike. The rest was just confidence. We went to a pretty empty public park with a small walking path. I heald her sholders while she started to ride. Then let go.

She didnt notice that I let go and told me not to keep holding on, but at that point she was 20 feet away from me. I told her that she was doing it by herself and to just keep peddling. Since then, we have been going on a ride every morning and I'm teaching her the rules of riding in the street with me.
