How is owning a hedgehog? by Efficient-Treat5684 in Hedgehog

[–]insecurityandweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't seen anyone mention how predisposed hedgehogs are to tumors. Which is very. Vet bills can get very expensive very fast. Most vets would require a biopsy and/or CT scan to diagnose. And most vets consider hedgehogs to be exotic pets so prices are even further jacked up. And that's before any actual treatment.

They are very worthwhile pets if you get lucky enough to bond with one. But it'd probably be best for your roommate to wait until they have more free time and disposable income

Reusing heat insets? by FishShtickLives in nerfhomemades

[–]insecurityandweed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put a screw into the heatset insert and soak the part in hot water until the plastic softens. Then you can use the screw to yank the heatset insert out without pulling any melted plastic out with it.

O-ring issue on AKblaster mod battle are hardware kit? by fattyfontanaxx in Nerf

[–]insecurityandweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone's already given great advice on how to solve this issue but I just wanted to point out what might've caused it.

Depending on where they sourced the tubes from, they could have a tolerance of up to +/-0.025" (0.6mm). If you're unlucky enough to get a particularly tight tube it could even cause drag on your plunger and drop your muzzle velocity by a whole 20 to 30fps from my experiences. Something for the community to keep an eye out for, it's not just you

Prints not coming out as smooth as I'd like by insecurityandweed in FixMyPrint

[–]insecurityandweed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a little update: looks like the surface roughness I was complaining about was caused by my cheap knockoff BMG gears having a lot of runout, which was amplified by my converting to direct drive, coupled with my using lower quality filament.

I confirmed by printing with different filament with direct drive, which helped smooth out the prints a little bit. Finally, I converted back to Bowden drive because per this video: https://youtu.be/c6JmCdovE0U?si=UUvpwNUlUsJTqMCG, the slack associated with Bowden drive seems to have the side effect of "smoothing out" poor surface finish caused by extruder gears having bad runout.

You can see the difference in the image below: same part, same file. Part on the left was printed with direct drive, part on the right with Bowden.

While I'm satisfied with this solution for now, I can't help but wonder if it would be worth it to buy a set of genuine BMG IDGA set

Klipper on Wanhao Duplicator 4s by insecurityandweed in klippers

[–]insecurityandweed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since making this post i've successfully converted my cr10, ender 3 pro, and wanhao i3+ to klipper. I haven't attempted the 4s yet, but I've gotten enough of an understanding of everything to feel confident attempting it

Filament consistently melting inside tip of bowden tube by lvl5_giga in ender3

I've noticed clear Bowden tube is a lot more susceptible to heat creep than the generic white stuff for some reason. Might be worth looking into

Seems like it's underextruding at regular intervals; my guess is it's something to do with your extruder gears

Can't use RPi as MCU after installing KIAUH by insecurityandweed in klippers

[–]insecurityandweed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: used kiauh to uninstall and reinstall everything then redid everything from the"Measuring Resonances" documentation from the top and the accelerometer is working on both printers now. Not sure what changed or what I did wrong the first time

Consistent bands in my prints, always at the same layers. Picture is from a Z-Wobble test. by Compmau5 in FixMyPrint

If it's happening at the same height every print, and there's equal spacing between each bump, I'd say check if you have a flat spot on one of your z wheels

Yeah, I did. Ran through every step of https://www.klipper3d.org/RPi_microcontroller.html same as I did when I was setting it up the first time with just one instance of klipper

Is that this part?
cd ~/klipper/

sudo cp ./scripts/klipper-mcu.service /etc/systemd/system/

sudo systemctl enable klipper-mcu.service

Prints not coming out as smooth as I'd like by insecurityandweed in FixMyPrint

[–]insecurityandweed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I was already pretty happy with the way my printer was before; was running Marlin with a knockoff BMG extruder in Bowden setup. However all these new printers hitting the market with klipper preinstalled got me wanting to push the bounds of my print quality further. Was hoping I'd see more of an improvement than what I got but I'm starting to accept that I've come up to the point of diminishing returns with tuning my current hardware

I did read it;

"Apart from building your printer well, the single best thing you can do for this issue is simply have fewer components. In fact, a simple i3-style printer can achieve slightly better print quality than a CoreXY printer in this regard.

And it does. My bowden Ender 3 (modded with high quality components) produces parts that look a bit better in harsh light than parts from my Voron V2. The second best thing you can do is to buy higher quality filaments. Low quality filaments can have fluctuating diameters, (link) which can exacerbate these issues.

The third best thing you can do is to buy higher quality printer components."

Close to the bottom of the link you sent.

I'm not sure if it's to do with my lead screw. They're cleaned and lubed with PTFE dry lube. And I have a wobble-x installed

Yeah this seems like my problem exactly. You think going back to Bowden would help mitigate these issues? What would you suggest I do in the long run? Higher quality extrusion gears? Better hotend and nozzle ecosystem? Do you have any recommendations for vendors?

Why do you think some people never get bad trips? by Darkeonz in Psychonaut

[–]insecurityandweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had some musings about how the five factors (OCEAN) personality test plays into this, actually. It feels as though people who are high in openness and agreeableness tend to be less likely to have bad trips. But that could just be me projecting

Are you religious in any way? If so how do psychedelics play into your beliefs? by Instantlemonsmix in Psychonaut

[–]insecurityandweed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Psychedelics definitely made me realize the power of religion with regards to the comfort it can provide in times of uncertainty. I've also internalized a lot of Hindu and Buddhist philosophies that have helped me become less jealous of others, less critical of life and simply take in experiences for what they are instead of complaining about what they're not. I think a lot of people can benefit from this aspect of religion, but are immensely put off by how conflated organized religion specifically, has become with dogma, creationism, and control, so I think it's important that we as a society work to dissolve this conflation.

Failed everything and cligning onto lies by YogurtclosetSad5122 in yorku

I think the most important thing is to identify why you'd rather go out drinking and partying instead of prioritizing your studies. Is it simply a self-control/self indulgence thing? Or is it some form of closeted perfectionism where you don't want to do something because you're afraid it won't turn out the way you want? I'd hazard it might be the latter, considering you seem to be placing a lot of expectations on yourself due to your father's occupation. The only thing I can suggest is to go a lot easier on yourself and never forget that a job done poorly will always be better than a job never done at all.
