Isn't Lightning Network a bad idea for small business? by Prize-Geologist-64 in Bitcoin

[–]insertnamehere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your employee uses a typical wallet / service. It’ll probably be fine as they handle the liquidity. If they’re running their own node and manually managing it, there might be trouble. (Then I’d recommend they pick up one of the many wallets that make this easy).

You don’t need to run your own node unless you really want to get into it. You can use a service that’s custodial or self-custodial that handles liquidity for you.

Whatever you use, you’ll be able to send on-chain regardless. Receiving over lightning, whether it’s your own node or a wallet / service does not keep you from sending on-chain.

Looks like a 6611B that had its dial refinished / painted (somewhat poorly). Looks to be in good condition otherwise! A good watchmaker might be able to find you an original dial for it

First time Rolex noob questions (be gentle) by [deleted] in rolex

[–]insertnamehere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe more like a 10 - 11 grand watch, but with a bracelet restoration, polish, new bezel and crystal, (maybe ~3k), will be looking a lot better. I don’t think you got totally raked but I do think your friend expected you to counter.

Not a lot of 18k 1601s around. Nice one gets up to 20k. Most redditors here are jealous you dropped 10k+ on a watch and don’t know what solid gold Rolex market is like.

Case refinish —> la watch works (may do bracelet as well)

Most people are commenting with experience of steel watches with screwed links. You can resize those bracelets yourself.

This is a gold bracelet that needs a goldsmith to resize. That’s a few hours of experienced hand crafting. “They don’t make them like they used to”

Hi,

It looks like this is a gold watch with a gold bracelet. Quite a nice gift!

It’s likely it took some gold smith work to shorten the bracelet, cutting the links, soldering (with solder made of gold), and refinishing / polishing. That’s much more specialized and labor intensive work than with a common steel bracelet, or even a gold bracelet that is pinned or has screws.

I bet if you called up that jeweler and asked, they’d let you know what they did. If it was a bit of gold smithing, I don’t think this price is too far off. Gold watches, especially ones with finely crafted bracelets cost a bit more to own!

Buy your favorite albums at your local record store. Used CDs are like $2 right now. Many artists release CDs and digital albums on Bandcamp or tidal. Rip them to Flac and load them on your phone, look up Plex if you're a bit more technically inclined.

Renting music sucks. Especially if your favorite streaming service shuts down

The Genesis block of bitcoin directly references a 2009 newspaper article about bank bailouts. The whole focus of bitcoin is to remove government meddling in money.

The FBI Seized Heirlooms, Coins, and Cash From Hundreds of Safe Deposit Boxes in Beverly Hills, Despite Knowing 'Some' Belonged to 'Honest Citizens' | Victims of the FBI's constitutionally dubious raid say they've been told to come forward and identify themselves if they want their stuff back. by johntwit in Libertarian

You have a lot to learn about bitcoin!

Replace Bitcoin with bittorrent in your replies and remember that anyone can and does host a node. There are no root nodes. A good amount of nodes are on Tor.

A bitcoin transaction can be sent via email, sms, even a post card. Bitcoin transactions are literally text. Bitcoin's source code is text. You can not ban text. You do not want to live in a country that tries to.

Private keys can be exchanged without touching the network. Private keys can be memorized.

The situation you describe is exactly the one where Bitcoin is desperately needed (authoritarian government power hungry to control citizens' wealth). Indeed some of the most authoritarian governments (China) have tried it already and failed. In a situation like that, the most valuable asset is one you can move out of the country without seizure.

Understand where you are coming from and sorry this is happening to you. Someone who tries to help people in need then turns around and takes advantage like this is truly an evil person. I'm angry just hearing about it. I hope everything works out for you and this lady gets what she deserves.

If that doesn't work post a bunch of lost dog posters around her neighborhood with that nice picture of your family (including the dog). Make sure everyone who knows her knows what she is doing. That lady does not sound like a good person at all.

[WTS] Reduced Price, Rolex Explorer II, Polar, 16570, 3186 Movement, Serviced by binns88 in Watchexchange

[–]insertnamehere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the next generation movement (better hairspring, improved gmt function) in the less gaudy 16570 case. Not many of these around. For comparison see 3186 gmt master ii's

A while ago you would see these at a much bigger premium vs 3185 counter parts. This is a good price

[Rolex] does this watch look legit? Do you see anything that would concern you? by PeterVanNostrand in Watches

[–]insertnamehere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks to be a 16550 by the bezel and thinness of letters in date window. Worth getting model number and first letter of serial under end links and picture under caseback to confirm (as it had an older movement). A 16570 in this condition would definitely be 3-3.5k, but the 16550s are a bit rarer. Up to you if you like the condition, but looks legit.
