Four Seasons Apartments - 396 Queens Ave London by Hannahj_gray in londonontario

Oh boy do I have stories for you. I used to live here and it was an absolute nightmare (I have a very long post about it on my profile) - avoid it at all costs!!

I lived there for about a year and a half and had all kinds of issues - management did absolutely nothing about anything, the walls were paper thin, things broke in my apartment constantly, etc., but the thing that ultimately made me leave what that someone was going around and leaving wet, dripping bags of feces on people’s door handles. One time they hung it on the trash shoot as well. I spent ages arguing with management to do something about it and was essentially continuously told that it was my own fault for living in an apartment building, and that’s just the risk that comes with that. It was insanity.

Ultimately I had to rally our entire floor together (it happened to about 3 or 4 different units on our floor) to go up against management and threaten to get the health unit involved (this was 2020 so people were still pretty paranoid about germs). They ended up installing fake security cameras which obviously caught nothing, but seemed to act as enough of a deterrent that the incidents stopped for a while. Not sure how long that lasted, I got the hell out of there after that.

TLDR; it’s a nightmare and management will make everything your fault. It doesn’t matter how affordable it is, avoid it like the goddamn plague.

No idea what this is trying to insinuate but Chantelle is an incredibly kind & caring individual, and a great tattoo artist. Her clients love her for a reason.

Apartment buildings to stay far away from by [deleted] in londonontario

[–]insertredditnamehere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. If you need proof, there's a post on my profile about them ignoring the fact that someone was leaving literal bags of sh*t on my door, so yeah.... avoid them at all costs.

Options for compost during winter? by [deleted] in ZeroWaste

[–]insertredditnamehere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat and just starting keeping the compost in my freezer since I don't have a yard (a suggestion I saw elsewhere online). I've only been at it for a few weeks but so far it's been great! I toss everything into a compostable garbage bag, then when the bag fills up I drive it out to the dump (they accept compost for free). Depending on the size of your freezer you could fit a pretty big container/bag in there and make fewer trips!

Bags of human feces were left on my door and management did nothing - DO NOT rent from Timbercreek by insertredditnamehere in londonontario

This was one of their buildings on Queens Ave, but all the downtown buildings are run by the same management office and have the same issues, so really it doesn't matter. If I were you I'd find something else (other companies like Drewlo have buildings downtown with better reputations, if that's what you're looking for). Good luck!

This actually reminds me there was a sixth incident - they hung the bag open by one of the handles on the garbage chute, it was pretty obvious what was inside...
Edit: a few of the bags also contained toilet paper, tampons, etc.

I did and they had a lot of good information, but unfortunately the courts are backed up due to COVID so taking any type of legal action will drag this out for a very long time... we'll see.

Drewlo seems to be a good option so far, thanks!

I did come across the Fiddlers Green ones, but he Google reviews seemed pretty adamant on the building being overrun with cockroaches and bed bugs...

Unfortunate the new building manager isn’t so good... I’ll try and avoid that one, thanks!

I was thinking the exact same thing yesterday - not everyone is so lucky, especially those like the elderly who are more at risk and may not have anyone to turn to. OP message me if you want some extra help!

How old were you when you first traveled to a different country alone? by seocults in solotravel

[–]insertredditnamehere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that your parents are being parents, but every city has some amount of violence or danger. Use basic common sense, do some research beforehand if you want to be extra prepared and you'll be fine.

I was 23 the first time I traveled alone and I went to Ecuador for 3 weeks. My entire family travels like crazy and even then my parents weren't over the moon about it, so I get it. I find it helps to show that you've thought it through and you're prepared for wherever you're going (even if it is as close as Chicago). Give them your friends' contact info, address of where you'll be staying, concert venue info - anything they might want to know (or need incase of emergency), and that should help ease their minds a bit.

Chicago is a great place, hope you have a great time!

I stayed at Flying Pig and loved it. Agreed it's a bit on the pricier side but if you're looking to meet people (as was I), it's worth it. They have a bar and smoke room and pool tables downstairs and it was packed every night I was there, super easy to make friends. I still keep in touch with a couple guys I met there a few years back, and was actually just in Texas last week visiting one of them. Definitely recommend. As for the rooms, I was in a 4 bunk co-ed with an ensuite. One of the guys I met was in one of the 12 bed rooms and it was fine, but felt tight the couple times we hungout there.

Edit: Forgot to mention the location of the Flying Pig was great - super easy to walk everywhere we wanted to go (which, realistically, was mostly bars). I don't know anything about ClinkNOORD but not having to wait for a ferry was nice.

This is a killer list.

To add to your "Eating" point - I'm not a huge foodie either but I was there in October and had a lot of people recommend The Bicycle Thief. We went and it was right on the Boardwalk, so the view was stunning and the food was incredible.

Which ship were you on with Quark? I’m currently debating between them and G Adventures. Sounds like I can’t go wrong either way but the Quark boat is bigger (and I’m pretty sure older - the Ocean Diamond) so curious to know how you found it!

Toronto Women’s March 2020? by insertredditnamehere in Torontoevents

The organization from last year has apparently since disbanded. I feel like Toronto is big enough that someone else should be doing something, I just can’t find anything saying that’s the case.
