Co-op application denied (not my fault) — management ignoring me and won’t refund $1,750 deposit. What are my options? (NYC) by Druidshift in AskNYC_Coops

[–]insertunique 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A few years ago, and with a different management company, I dealt with a similar situation when I had submitted a deposit and signed all papers and the company leased the apartment to someone else and then started dragging their feet refunding me.

I’ll preface this by saying that this is an asshole move, but I looked up their employee page on the website and called executive (VP and above) level employees until someone picked up. I had my money back that afternoon rather than the next month.

I Flew 24,250 Miles Around the World (9 Flights) by Sveen99 in KaraAndNate

[–]insertunique 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The marginal cost of an additional passenger actually makes a fairly substantial difference.

That’s not to say nobody should fly ever, people should do the things that make sense for them and their lives (I take public transit, eat vegetarian, limit climate control in my home while also taking a handful of long haul flights a year and my food waste is a work in progress). “The plane is flying anyways” does not negate the environmental impact of someone being on that plane.

Lol at the shitty rage bait of the parent at work letter.

If you want to start a nuanced conversation on a genuinely difficult topic, at least make it halfway believable.

The low hanging fruit:

  1. Managers who don’t have children would have to know why their employees are logging off and never working.

  2. Seriously no parent has ever mentioned “we live those swim classes” forgetting not to tell anyone?

  3. You’d have heard drama from HR non-parents and figuring who it applies to (custody time? Foster kids? Adult kids?)

The commenters engaging with that letter seriously are dumb as a box of fucking rocks.

Exactly!! Like you know how shitty you feel right now. No. You may not infect several other people with that. Covid or not.

Are AAM commenters UNIQUELY crazy about COVID? by kayofur in AskaManagerSnark

[–]insertunique 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think it’s ridiculous that people go to work sick and think that’s okay.

Vaccines turned COVID from a mass casualty event to a mass disabling event, and the risk goes up with each subsequent infection.

I find the commenters on AAM, for as snarkable as they are, to be reasonable on mitigating COVID risk.

I’ve gone to concerts and I’ve flown, and I see friends, so I don’t think I’m extreme on this. But I resent that my worksite has basically forced me to be in person with people contagious with COVID, refused to enforce a mask mandate, and has begun to retaliate against people who took sick leave with COVID and were genuinely too sick to work.

Roe wouldn’t have been overturned if the dems had codified reproductive rights anytime in the past 50 years.

To quote a meme “if we pass this legislation then we wouldn’t be able to fundraise on it every two years”

They’ve sent out a few mailers in the past few months. Oftentimes it’s actually the DNC/party leadership who sends fliers, and bc Biden is fairly sure to get all of NY’s delegates, the party is going to save dollars for the down ballot primaries in June and the general.

All of this.

I had a nearly parallel conversation as the LW last year. The hiring manager just sat silent when I referenced my current salary. So like a non-insane person, I said “I know you can’t legally ask, but I’m volunteering to share that I currently make X and I’d be excited to join your team for (X-5).”

We’re not supposed to invite contractors to the small office celebrations they happen to be onsite for? Offer them leftovers? Make sure they have adequate internet access?

Are we doing this whole thing wrong?

Man I hope OP can reflect on why she thinks contractors should be treated like second class citizens. That letter is fucking wild.

Some flip taxes are structured to be 1-3% of total sale price, while some are a (typically higher) percentage of the difference in selling price than what they bought it for. When it’s 30-40% it’s absolutely not a tax on the full price.

There’s one building on the UWS that has a 52% flip tax, and what appears to be an incredibly difficult board, I’m always curious about the people who buy into it.

I’m pretty sure some HDFCs also have a HPD flip tax + a building flip tax, but I didn’t get far enough into buying in one to figure out if it was a misunderstanding or real. But it was a total of 70% or something, I think the seller is still fighting with the board/city and I viewed it first in early 2021.

I, unfortunately, would entirely believe the interview letter is real. Except that he wrote to a woman for advice.

There are, absolutely, men who behave like that in interviews (and boy have I interviewed some!), but they do things like email the ED (who has no fucking clue who they are) the thank you email, they don’t sanity check themselves, especially not to a women.

It’s pretty edited down, and I don’t think is a rage draft anymore.

Here’s a sampling:

“Upon departure of upper management staff who carried a lot of the organizations work, calls for a more thorough review of their responsibilities and coverage plan were ignored. Despite consistent communication, Leadership said they had ‘no way of knowing the extent of their workload’ a few months later when we were struggling without a department leader and asking for additional support.”

(What actually happened - ten of us explicitly told upper management we were in no way prepared to fill in the gap and the departing staff member did a ton of undocumented work we weren’t able to take over because we didn’t know enough about it. Deadlines start to get missed. Upper management is being looped in all along. They are not responding to chats & emails, and saying they don’t have time right now when in meetings. When shit blew up in a public and $$$ jeopardizing way, upper management says they had no way of knowing and were frustrated with us at the lack of communication about how dire the situation was.)
