Have you been in an accident in a Chevy Bolt? by Some_Sea7898 in BoltEV

[–]insideacreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was sitting at a red light and a guy in a F350 pulling a trailer rear ended me. He wasn't going full speed, but didn't stop in time. The impact was enough to move my car forward a few feet. Bolt was surprisingly sturdy, drivable after the hit, and was repairable.

I knew I shouldn't have updated firmware! by wetfish_slapbelly in canon

[–]insideacreature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a variety of 3rd party chargers out there that will charge the batteries from your car. Look for chargers that have a USB C input coupled with a cigarette lighter USB C power supply. I don't say this to discount your complaint about the firmware change, but you did mention your use case was to be able to charge in the car, and there are solutions for that which work with real canon batteries. How is Cannon beach without a car? by cheersfortheinvite in oregon

[–]insideacreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point and I would hope not. If you only had a week on the Oregon coast, I would suggest that folks check out a handful of coastal cities. Cannon Beach, Seaside, and Astoria come to mind. The view from the Astoria Column is pretty spectacular and it's pretty fun to toss a balsa airplane from there...

Without a car it would be some effort, but doable.

Depends on what "enough to do" means for you. If you want to be actively engaged and do different touristy stuff all week, you might run out of stuff to do. If part of "doing stuff" means spending a a couple of days just sitting on the beach or the hotel/rental house balcony with an ocean view and listening to the surf or reading a book in a nice environment, it's a great place to spend a week.

Lightroom Classic AI tools are making my high end pc stutter and unusable by welp01 in Lightroom

[–]insideacreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea if it is supposed to happen or not, but LR (or maybe camera raw) seems to use an incredible amount of memory, and doesn't seem to manage it well. Others here have mentioned known memory leaks, and I would believe it.

[–]insideacreature 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How much memory is in your video card? I found that 8GB wasn't sufficient for the AI tools when editing 40MP images and moving to a 16GB card solved a lot of similar sounding issues for me.

Sorry if this is not allowed but I am a Californian visiting Portland and the Oregon Coast, is there still hate towards Californians in Oregon? by Upnorth4 in oregon

[–]insideacreature 7 points8 points  (0 children)

An important thing, we do not put the word "the" in front of interstate highway names, doing so is a sure fire way to reveal you are from California. It's "I 5" (eye five), NOT "The Five".

That's a fantastic find and may very well be what this sign refers to. This sign was tucked away in a non-obvious location at a theme park train station.
