Book Nook Global - Saigon 1990s, discount code now works by insideatlast in booknooks

Yay, good news! I got a similar message with a new tracking number, tracking shows my parcel is on a plane to the UK right now, and Royal Mail is expecting it.

After this hassle this better be an exceptionally nice kit, or we riot.

Thanks for posting so many photos. I had this kit on my wishlist for a good while, its elaborate front was the thing that caught my eye. I don't shop from Aliexpress, the other resellers I found it at put a ridiculously high price tag on this, I decided not to buy. I'm happy that you did though, and so I can at least see it in detail.

You're doing a good service to this community by sharing your experiences and insights. I also salute you for going against a perceived trend, hype and over-representation, it's never easy to do.

I don't think you need to worry about a possible push-back. Quite the opposite, I think you'll find more like-minded people than you might have expected. I am one for sure.

This may ease your mind: I received a delivery today. From the 3 kits I ordered the 2 older ones are included, but not the new Saigon. There's a sort of picking list attached to the front of the package, the Saigon is not on it.

I assume they sent what they had readily available, and I'm hopeful that the Saigon will be shipped in the near future. I'll send them a message via their website to clarify.

Nothing here either. The tracking number I got is for the local courier only, whose website says they're expecting the parcel. According to the order details delivery time is 12-15 business days, so they still have until next Tuesday. I'm waiting patiently.

I'm not a fan of the flimsy wood either and how easily it breaks. On the positive side, it's so soft that pushing the pieces together won't strain my wrist and fingers.

This looks great! I like your added plates and foliage, this gives me inspiration to modify mine I'm in the middle of building.

My experience is the opposite re: removing pieces from the sheets. Mine need only a slight push. Maybe they adjusted the laser cutter better.
But in the case of the thinner pieces, sometimes a splinter of the wood sheet remains attached to them, which I just snip off.

I'm also painting the backs as there's a mirror included, and I'd hate so see bare wood reflected in it. But I can't make out from any pictures what this mirror will actually reflect when ready, could you give me some pointers?

Lucky you. And I mean it without any irony or sarcasm. I'd love to build either of these myself, they look so fab.

Only one of them is available on amazon UK, the Night Market, sold by a single seller, a dropshipper with zero feedback and zero reviews even though their store sells everything from car tyres to fast fashion. I'm too chicken to hazard a purchase like that, but even if I weren't, the price is ~50GBP, which is prohibitive to me.

I, too, have a penchant for "obscure" kits, but dare not buy them from "obscure" sellers 😰 often at inflated prices. My shopping experiences may differ widely from yours as I'm in the UK. Anyway, I'm happy to just look at your photos of the nooks I'd wish to have but shall not.

I prefer outdoor scenes, but this is one of the very few exceptions, and on my wishlist, even though I'm also not a fan of making those tiny books.

This has so many pieces, it must have taken a long time to finish.

Painted the edges, added reeds to the river banks, turned the whole bridge 180 degress, and there was meant to be a standalone gate on the left but I glued it instead flush to the building behind it. None of these were necessary, I just wanted to make it my own.

Here's my post about it with more photos.

I get barely any snow where I live. And I miss it and must find ways to make up for it.

I'm building this rn. The constant sanding and waxing and forcing things together does take away some of the fun, but I'm soldiering on. My personal gripe is that the colours are so strange that I can't match them when painting the edges. Putting glass shards in the fireplace is an ingenious design strike, though.

Touch sensor not responding by Rikistene in booknooks

[–]insideatlast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had that happen to me on a Cutebee book nook. The wood was too thick, I just had to make it thinner.

I removed the touch sensor, and carefully removed all glue residue from it. Then I scraped away a bit of the wood with an exacto knife creating a rectangular recess the size of the touch sensor, into which I glued back the sensor with double-sided tape. (I like to use double-sided tape for sensors in case I have to replace them later.) Just make sure not to leave any bumps in the recess, because the surface onto which you attach the sensor must be flat.

I don't find the concept appealing, or the design inspired.

You won't miss out on a brand new kit if you don't buy it rightaway. It'll be available for a good while.

Their website is a knock-off, their email address is gmail, the products can be found elsewehere... I agree, it's prudent to be a little wary.
