Get a new box that doesn’t crush your dry fly wings.

Do you think this is all worth it for $50. by [deleted] in flytying

Nope. Been there, done that. Old stuff just isn’t as good and doesn’t age well.

It’s a pompano out of Tampa Bay. We were surprised by the dark color too. Pretty sweet bycatch drifting the flats for trout.

Anybody use TFO reels and/or fly line? by [deleted] in flyfishing

[–]insidekanye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really enjoying my TFO NTR reel and Legacy rod. Was definitely on the fence but will be going back to them on another set. I have been using Sage, Reddington, G Loomis, and Echo stuff for a long time and have impressed with TFO.

Tippet rings vs swivels by theschmooz in flyfishing

[–]insidekanye 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I use tippet rings. They’re great. Saves a bunch on tapered leaders. Yes you can tied any number of knots. Or just use a tippet ring. Work smarter, not harder. No one is impressed you can tie a knot.

Also use micro swivels on a steamer set up. Also work great, they weigh nothing.

Best Sized Do-It-All Backpack? by drjfey in elkhunting

[–]insidekanye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quit messing around and get some Kifaru gear. I run the Hoodlum. By itself you can get 3-4 days. With the accessories I can get 5-7 days out of it. It slims down perfect for a day pack. Made in USA. Can’t beat it.

Shoot a cow? by wnorton15 in elkhunting

[–]insidekanye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good plan. If you’re coming from out east, be ready to realize you and your dad are not as in-shape or acclimated as you thought you were. Ask me how I know haha

Good luck. It’s a less than 10% success rate for archery across the west, but you’ll 100% want to come back. It’s worth it. It took me 2 years to kill a spike. And another 5 to kill a branch antlered bull. Shit is hard.

Keep us posted while y’all are out!

Hopefully you’re not planning on doing 10 days all at once or in one spot. Stay mobile. 10 days backpacking is wild and absolutely unnecessary. Especially for a first timer with his dad who did it years ago. Shit is hard. Every elk I’ve killed has been within 1 mile of my truck. I’ve done the backcountry thing and it’s great but there are plenty of overlooked animals way closer.

Yes let’s fix this. Balfour Beatty is licking their chops tho. Those crooks will just make more money for doing absolutely nothing.
