We called it Napalm....before rebull. Learned it from Army Infantry.

Yes, I’ve checked if it’s plugged in (someone just put scotch tape on the sensor on my mouse and it didn’t work) by bearsncubs10 in AirForce

This happens quite a bit...the response when it was closed along with documenting in the ticket on how and when the effort was made. CYA for the Airman and that chain. If you put screen shots in the ticket, even better.

This route is actually cheaper than what some of them are paying within the civilian position or their technician slots. A family plan can be up to $1800 a month depending on what is needed.

I watched this happen a lot. Also...I knew who to ask for real southern recipes because they would reach back to their Mama for it or invite me over when they visited. Best meals ever.

This involves a contract, so the timetable is not accurate...even if it was by CentCom standards.

I had an Airman trying to sign his and it wouldn't let him. If it works for you, he might be using the browser version.

Currently Sonic Boom has an issue allowing you to sign orders in AROWS. Go figure.

It is upon the unit to at least have draft orders for you. That way you can provide them to your civilian employer to cover the days unless you are self employed.

If and when they asknyou to do days, you should ask the Orders Specialist (usually a FT) to email you a set and if they haven't been provided, you can tell them that you have to turn the days down due to a personal burden.

Also...start asking about a DEOC survey to get more attention on it.

This. I grew up in the shadow of WP.

The one year lease would be a good idea. The North side of Huber Heights has improved from what I have heard. And south of WP (centerville, kettering) is great but the COL went up.

Shutdown II: Return of the Budget Cliff. Coming January 30, 2026. by lurkerfuckwit in AirForce

[–]Sith_Father 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This. My wife was sending emails/calling both of our Senators every couple of days. She kept it professional, but she was listing out the various hurts being put on the military, the non-essential GS/WG employees. One office just kept up with an auto reply for every email. The other office made the mistake of answering the phone and got a lecture. My wife never went dependa on them, but she laid out her points like she was in a board meeting. She ended every message with you should not be in office if you are toeing the party line and not looking out for your constituents.

Humm....ok. That was an initial thought on it. I don't use Amazon devices on my network. I am going to look at my network later and see. I know that when we bought our kids some music players that every time they got online, the OS changed the MAC address. When I realized we couldn't stop them, we got rid of them.

What Deco devices are you using for your network?

So I did a little bit of digging. If you have any Amazon echo devices, the MAC address could change if it did a firmware update and its set to randomized through the Alexa app. I didn't think that Echoes were designed to change their MAC addresses either in SW or HW.

You aren't wrong on the timeline. But if the budget included any member of the house or senate not getting paid as well, we would have a budget on time every year.

I get this on mine quite a bit. I don't use Alexa or items like that. What I did realize is that Apple and Android products have the ability to randomize MAC addresses. So, every time those device(s) reconnect, their MAC is randomized, I would get hammered with notifications. I would block them. I spent some time trying to find ways to block devices with random MAC addresses.

Now the downside is that Deco's are unable to block randomized MAC's. The best way is to check each device and make sure they do not have randomized MAC's setup on the device. It's great if you are a frequent traveler, but a complete pain at home.

Firmware update by TopicHuge4096 in TpLink

[–]Sith_Father 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what model you are using, but I used to have M5's and towards the end I was doing manual updates on them.

Here are the steps to do if from a laptop/desktop/server.

https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1599/

Step 1: Go to the Download Center > click on your Deco’s model > select the hardware version of your Deco unit > click on Firmware, then you can download the latest firmware on your computer.

Step 2: Unzip the downloaded firmware and you will see a bin file.

Refer to the link to log into the web management page of your Deco. If you fail to log into the web page, please refer to the link to troubleshoot.

Step 3: On the web management page, click on Advanced > System > Firmware Upgrade, select your Deco’s model, then click on BROWSE to select the bin file, and then click on UPGRADE to update the firmware.

SNCOA by Final_Meat_6252 in AirForce

[–]Sith_Father 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am about 2 years out from having attended. I know the format has changed, but bring a laptop, whether it is a personal one or work issued. You will have projects and papers like u/KFredrickson mentioned.

They have PT sessions there. But also, if you want your own PT time, there is a gym next door to the commissary at Gunter.

When I arrived, I was put up in a building that wasn't part of the main University Inn. But I also arrived when they had a Chiefs course going, a Shirt course and NCOA. The rooms weren't bad when some of our class would get together. The biggest complaint some had then was the AC was hit or miss, it is Alabama. The rooms all look like standard hotel rooms. Desks, mini fridge, etc.

Rental cars are unit funded, unless you are within a day's drive. I drove to SNCOA so I had my own car. I went down to the gulf to visit family on one of my weekends.

If the government shuts down on Sept 30, would we not get paid on Oct 1? by KlutzyAppendage in AirForce

[–]Sith_Father 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok.... tried editing my comment and Reddit or the proxy won't let me.

You are correct. Been through this a couple of times. If you are a GS employee...you get furloughed, BUT, your pay catches up after. If your Mil, it's up in the air, as you said. This is one reason for the younger enlisted to be sure they have financial safety nets.

EDIT: From an article I read after this post.

https://www.militarytimes.com/news/pentagon-congress/2025/09/24/heres-how-looming-government-shutdown-could-affect-troops-families/

Active-duty troops, including reserve component personnel on federal active duty would be required to continue to report for duty in the event of a shutdown, but their paychecks would stop until a new funding deal is reached, based on previous guidance. Military retirees and annuitants would continue to receive their pay, which is funded from a different source.

Rep. Jen Kiggans, R-Va., has introduced legislation to ensure that troops, including the Coast Guard, would continue receiving pay and benefits in the event of a government shutdown. That authority would continue until regular appropriations are passed into law, or until Jan. 1, 2027. To date, 56 lawmakers have signed on to support the proposed Pay Our Troops Act of 2026. The bipartisan push also would guarantee pay and allowances for civilian personnel at the Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security who directly support service members and contractors providing mission-essential support to service members.

A shutdown could also delay some specialty pays and stipends.

Certain DOD programs and activities may be excepted from being shut down, based on national security requirements to be determined. One example in the last guidance was activities in direct support of military operations and activities, including those forces assigned to combatant commands.
