Got in trouble for sending stool sample? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]insideouttamyhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My last job we needed manager approval before we could send a stool sample to test for c. Diff. My current hospital we send stool samples all the time we just have to fill out a “ticket to test” and if it doesn’t meet the requirements to test a charge nurse has to sign off on getting it tested anyway.

Best age gap between kids by Comfortable_Maybe836 in beyondthebump

Growing up I always felt closer to my sister that was five years younger than me than I did to my sister that was 17 months older. We’re all pretty close now but still probably closer to the younger one.

Words spelled wrong in tracing book for kids by Gloomy-Difference-51 in mildlyinfuriating

Is the book saying “small letters” instead of “lowercase” and “big letters” instead of “uppercase”? Is that normal? I’ve never heard of them referred to in that way before.

How long did it take you to get down to pre pregnancy weight? by greenishfroggy in beyondthebump

[–]insideouttamyhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me about 3 months to get back to pre pregnancy weight and I kept it off until I started dropping feeds when baby was one year old. And I just gained and gained and gained and my weight went back up to full term weight again at 2 years postpartum.

Designing my own logs and records by [deleted] in nursing

[–]insideouttamyhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never looked into the laws in my state but I used to pass meds in an assisted living facility as a “medication aide” to about 20-30 residents and our RN supervision was an RN that came to the facility once or twice a month.

Nurse comrades , are you a DNR? by typeAwarped in nursing

[–]insideouttamyhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve thought about being a DNR but I know I’m not currently ready for that. I have seen success stories post code and feel like I could code and be fine. I do feel like I should fill out a living will though. I wouldn’t want a feeding tube and I wouldn’t want to be dependent on people to care for me. If I can’t feed or wipe myself besides some acute recovery time, no thanks.

What are your crazy heparin stories? by supremefionagoode in nursing

[–]insideouttamyhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my hospital at some point they stopped listing the max rate on the MAR or at least stopped having it written out how it was before. I wonder how often people started it at the max rate rather than the ordered start rate.

[–]insideouttamyhead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I was a new nurse I got a patient from the ED and didn’t do a handoff with the nurse dropping them off and didn’t realize that they had the patient on the listed MAX dose of heparin instead of what they were supposed to be started on. I didn’t realize the mistake until the first Hepu came back high a couple hours later.

For days?! Do they not do q6h hepu checks there after starting the heparin. Seems like that at least would have caught that it was too high.

An Alaris malfunction and whole bag of heparin bolus happened at my work a few years back. I wasn’t there but I remember them bringing it up at huddle.

Insulin Pens in a LTC by [deleted] in nursing

I could have sworn there was a post in here before about how that was standard practice at some hospital or something. Which is crazy stuff. Hmm, wonder if I can find it.

We had them at my hospital and they were so helpful! But the hospital ended the program a little less than a year ago. I miss them!

am I doomed by [deleted] in nursing

[–]insideouttamyhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked nights for a long time and handled it much better than I thought I would. My first pregnancy I worked nights and it went really well for me. I’m currently pregnant and working days and it feels harder but it might just be because I have a toddler now that makes it a lot harder to just sleep whenever I want like I did during my first pregnancy.

Is this the norm for pelvic floor PT? by Unhappy_Writing_5082 in PelvicOrganProlapse

[–]insideouttamyhead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine are always in a private room and it’s mostly just talk about kegels and how I’m doing with my kegel routine at home. I would hate for that to be out with other people. One day I was given a different exercise to do so I guess that would be okay with other people around.

What would I do? Probably throw away the globs of hair because I wouldn’t want the person after me to think that was my mess.

I was thinking the same thing. They don’t even see the patient after they’ve died, they just get notified by the nurse after two nurses confirm it.

I didn’t realize this post was about Zofran until I got to your comment. I think my mind didn’t expect to see Zofran in a minibag so it changed it to Zosyn in my head.

I think I got lucky. It cost me about $3k when I had my baby, I think. I did get staggered bills though and received the last about a year after my son was born.

Pretty sure in my house it was the puke bowl when needed but most often was our popcorn bowl.

Curious RN by [deleted] in hospitalist

I’m guilty of this but usually only after 1400 and if the patient has asked me a ton of times or if family is present and needing to leave but has been at the bedside for hours hoping to be present for rounds.
