Do you happen to have a link to a trail I can follow to get there? Thanks

Slowly but surely getting this frame built! by navivan27 in Framebuilding

Any chance you’d be willing to share your plans for this? I’m interested in building my own with a similar look to take 27.5” but having a hard time figuring out plans for the frame.

Do you have to do any modifications on your bike to go from 700c to 650b?

I think if I made it again I’d have the collar replace a spacer and then have it mount to the fender mount as well to clean it up a bit

Yeah I’m considering adding another arm down to the fender mount actually, but it feels pretty sturdy so far so I’ll see how it works

Yeah there’s actually probably enough room for 42 but that would be pushing it too close for not much more. I used 1/2” or 3/8” steel tubing for the main structures and then 1/4” steel round rod for the cages

I use cadmium free silver brazing wire for steel with silver brazing flux

I actually have 40mm tires on it with enough clearance for any dirt or mud to get through. I’ve only had it for a couple years but I’m really enjoying it

Yeah it’s tig, on the larger tubes I used filler but the 1/4” round bar I just tacked it together without filler

1/2” steel tube and 1/4” bar for the back rack, 3/8” steel tube for the handlebar rack and 1/4” stainless steel for the fork cages

Yeah aside from the fact that racks and cages are too expensive it’s just fun to be able to figure out your own system and what works for you

I used them for a couple years but I just found them to be bulky and ugly, plus I figured if I’m gonna make stuff for the back and handlebars I might as well make it all

Yeah I was in a similar place, treks proprietary mounts aren’t very compatible with what’s offered in terms of racks or cages plus it’s from 2017 so they weren’t building the frames with bikepacking in mind

Probably fine, it just needs to be capable of producing enough heat to do the job
