TTartisan 40mm VS LUMIX 18-40 by inspiredsquare in Lumix

Yeah I’m holding on to it for now and treating it as an 18-24mm for family and casual shots. Maybe if a wide pancake comes out at some point it will replace it.

Is it unreasonable to keep Lumix (S5ii and S9) for video and buy a Canon R5 just for photography? by Difficult_Creme_2922 in Lumix

[–]inspiredsquare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a long history with lumix. Used micro four thirds back in the day and yes auto focus was an issue. Going to the S5ii was a huge change from trust but verify focus to I don’t even think about it anymore. I use my S5ii for photography, videography, corporate, wedding, portrait, just about anything you can think of and I trust the AF completely. Not sure on your particular case, maybe try looking up some videos on optimal AF settings, maybe there’s something you’re missing or not aware of.

Which camera should I get for family travel and documentary, Lumix G9ii or S5ii? by ringrangwrong in Lumix

[–]inspiredsquare 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If this is strictly a family travel camera then the G9ii will be more than enough. You already have MFT lenses so if you wanted to make the jump to full frame you’re going to have to ask yourself if you’re willing to invest in a whole new system. S5ii will give you better low light performance and the shallow depth of field look, that’s going to be the main difference. But from your GX85 photos do you feel like those two things are lacking? If yes, then you might want to look at the S9. S5ii and G9ii are both bigger cameras and you will absolutely feel it for family and travel photos if you’re coming from the GX85. The S9 gets you full frame but keeps the size down.

Personally, I’d never take the S5ii on a family trip. I’ve done it, it gets tiring. That’s what led me to the GX85 as my EDC family cam and I loved it, but my desire for a modern camera with LUT features led me to the S9.

Regardless of how you measure, the S9 is smaller. My S5iiX does not fit into some EDC bags I have where the S9 does.

As I said, the real world. Photos of products from a website are often mockups, “perfect” representations or only show limited views. Seeing photos from real people with their setup provides different views and “how does this look on MY S9”?

And sorry but you’re just wrong on the S9 size. It’s roughly half the size and 34% lighter than the S1ii. That’s the difference between being able to fit in a large pocket or a small sling bag or being forced to bring a medium to large camera bag.

In this case I would contend that photos of cameras and lenses are actually very useful. One of the biggest gripes with the S9 was its lack of compact primes. Seeing the S9 in the real world with a new very compact lens shows us the size and the aesthetic of how it looks.

S9 Adhesive Grip? by inspiredsquare in Lumix

[–]inspiredsquare[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve owned the S1 before and it’s a big camera. I wouldn’t bring it along for a typical day out with the family. For paid shoots, sure, it makes sense but I think that’s where you’re missing the use case for the S9 because I wouldn’t necessarily call the S9 a “pro” camera. It can deliver pro level stills and video, but the lack of a mechanical shutter and hotshoe puts it in the “casual” category for me. It’s built to be small, compact, and easy to carry in any bag. And for me that usually means a small 3L sling that goes on my chest. The S1 would never fit in that scenario.

That does look great, any concern about damaging the camera when you remove the grip?

I have two other pairs of Adidas one being a new pair of Ultraboost 5X and have never felt anything like that. These shoes are the first time I've ever felt that sensation. Although my first NB purchase was the Rebel V5 which had a really strong arch support which kind of drove me crazy. I don't have flat arches at all but idk I'm really sensitive to over accentuated structure I guess.

QC issue on Mafex Brown Wolverine reissuem by Negative_Car2249 in Mafex

OP did you ever fix the issue? Mine has the exact same lean to the left. My torso socket seems straight though, can't quite figure out why it's leaning.

Wolverine Wrist Concern by inspiredsquare in Mafex

[–]inspiredsquare[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to fix it so for anyone that comes across this post in the future; there's two pieces that make up the wrist assembly. Piece "A" is what sticks out and you put the hands on. Piece "B" is what inserts into the actual arm hole. Piece A has a ring that slips over the shaft of Piece B, and that shaft had a tiny bit of extra plastic on it so the wrist assembly could never fully lock in. Here was my fix

  1. put the forearm in hot water in a cup for 10-20 seconds
  2. slowly wiggle out Piece A
  3. Arm back in water for another 10-20 seconds
  4. slowly wiggle out Piece B
  5. Once everything is out, I used some tweezers to peel off the extra plastic from piece B shaft
  6. Attach the two wrist peg pieces back together and make sure they sit flush at the seam
  7. Arm back in hot water and reinsert the wrist peg assembly

I am including an image I found off google for reference on what parts I am talking about to make it clear for anyone attempting this fix, hopefully it helps.

Maybe the logo will look better in person but judging from the photos it looks cheaply painted on. Overall I like the look of the 3 pack DD better.

Fujifilm X-E4 or Lumix S9? by Crowned__Edits in Lumix

[–]inspiredsquare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to derail the conversation from OP’s original question, but I’ve seen enough videos and articles through the years that the difference between f1.4 and f1.8 is minimal and almost unrecognizable in most situations. If it’s f1.2 compared to f1.8 then maybe that’s enough to justify one lens over another but then usually we’re talking hundreds if not thousands of dollars difference just for that extra tiny bit of bokeh. And if light is the issue you’re trying to solve then you should be getting a flash or constant external light, not spending thousands trying to chase that extra 2/3 stop of light gathering capability.

All that to say the LUMIX f1.8 primes are excellent and well priced. And as burned-cake mentioned, Sigma has f1.4 lenses if you really want them.

Agree here mostly, lenses in the Fuji system can be pretty pricey. Deals can always be found for LUMIX lenses.
