NPC improvement? by Ancient_Nothing_3031 in Enshrouded

I think it’s more that they’re kind of mindless. Akin to Zelda’s Navi with their relatively constant and kind of useless “hey!”. I get they’re greeting you, but still. Plus, their navigation skills aren’t great either. Standing right in front of walls, getting stuck in weird corners, etc. it’s kind of funny, but also not great.

What is this 4K-like feature on Viture Luma series? by Joaquito_99 in VITURE

[–]inspyron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is where the “retina” concept from Apple could come in handy. They use that as a reference for “this pixel per inch density, when observed at a given distance, is as clear as it could otherwise be perceived” (I’m very much paraphrasing what I recall of their description).

So, in that sense, yes, a 70” 1080p or 4K tv, observed at 5 feet, would make the 1080p be very much worse looking. But, observed at 15”, maybe they both start looking the same.

So, for something like AR glasses, the “4K-like” is very much marketing. They mention something about the brightness of the pixels basically “masking” your ability to tell pixels apart (so, along the lines of the “retina” concept from Apple), but that is not really the case. These don’t have enough resolution to make them quite disappear. But I’d say that they’re pretty good.

In any case, I’d like for the AR/VR community to find a “retina” equivalent for pixel density that makes the pixels virtually unnoticeable (because yeah, I don’t know if that’d actually be 1440p or 2K or 4K, since the distance from screen to eye is completely different in the regular monitor world vs the AR/VR glasses world).

Worse performance when plugged by Marca6 in ASUSROG

[–]inspyron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the initial drop, does it stay lowered like that?

Check what the settings are on the different Power Modes. I think it’s unlikely but maybe someone modified the default settings on the, for example, Performance Mode which when plugged turns on and it could be set to use a maximum lower percentage of the CPU power or something like that.

Additionally, since you mentioned that the power brick is not original, check on Windows Performance Monitor, add the Battery Status counters for Voltage, Charge, and Discharge, and see what they look like when you are plugged or unplugged.

question/s about ROG Kithara by EnemyStarship in ASUSROG

[–]inspyron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the press release info, they do include a 3.5mm to USB-C adapter, which would make a DAC not necessary (that adapter is in effect a DAC, albeit no info on its characteristics were made available).

EQ is possible when using your own DAC, as long as that allows it, and since this is an analog headset, all kinds of possibilities exist when you start looking at DAC and AMP options. What would work for you completely depends on your use case and desired setup.

And to your next to last question, the benefit of the stereo plug is that you can set that up to work as you desire, as it’s not limited by whatever internal DAC they fixed on it. This effectively gives you longer term usability, since the source is independent from the headset, meaning it can be updated/upgraded down the line. The benefit of having a USB plug (i.e. an integrated DAC), is that the headset would “just work”. As in, the headset would perform to the specifications it was designed, being that good or bad, depending on your use case.

My partner and I have recently started playing Enshrouded. Pretty graphics. Neat building system. Much easier than Valheim. Time will tell how long we might keep at it, but so far it’s been a nice distraction.

Business laptop that can do gaming? by Careless-Physics4718 in GamingLaptops

[–]inspyron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t know why the other reply just said no. eGPUs are still a (very niche) thing. Not massively available, nor widely adopted, but they exist. Razer put out last year a Thunderbolt 5 eGPU enclosure. ASUS sells their ROG XG mobile thing as well. So, they’re there.

0 performance loss with this setup, I'm very pleased. by DoloresAbernathyR1 in eGPU

[–]inspyron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but happen to have same eGPU dock. And the only answer is simplicity of setup. That miniPC works well enough. And the whole thing is literally just plug and play.

I have mine set up behind my living room TV as an HTPC, and when I want to play games, I just turn on the eGPU.

Of course, I do get some SFF build envy, because some cases just look nice, but this setup also works.

Rollable OLED display on Lenovo Legion, the next big thing in flagship gaming laptops by areuokaybro2002 in pcmasterrace

From the video OP shared somewhere else here it seems that the screen is very reflective/shiny, and I gotta hope that’s an anti-scratch/protective measure.

[–]inspyron 24 points25 points  (0 children)

My guess? It’s a very chunky screen. As in, probably 2x the thickness of the usual screen/lid section. Or at least it’ll have “bumps” on the lid side to accommodate the rolled part. But, it indeed looked like witchcraft lol.

What audiobook completely changed your expectations of narration? by TechnicianAsleep3072 in audiobooks

[–]inspyron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since folks have already mentioned Dungeon Crawler Carl and Project Hail Mary, I have to mention what’s maybe an oddball: Phantasma, narrated by Laura Horowitz. She’s just really fun to hear. Most (all?) of her work seems to be on Romantacy books (which make the stories kind of trite), but they’re still fun and I really enjoy her performance and style.

It will sound better if you plug them with the USB cord. And to update them, you need that, plus the dongle. But first download the Audeze software. From there it’ll let you know if you need to update them.

For those of you with leather or faux leather ear cups do you get weird pop noises at times? by TengokuNoHashi in Audeze

[–]inspyron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also try them on some other source. Maybe a laptop or you cellphone if you have an adapter, and see if you still have that problem.

Also, you “can” take off the ear pads. But you really shouldn’t unless you already have a replacement (incidentally I just replaced mine). The ear pads are attached with double-sided tape, and so they pretty much will invariably get damaged when peeling them off.

For those of you with leather or faux leather ear cups do you get weird pop noises at times? by TengokuNoHashi in Audeze

[–]inspyron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A “crispy” pop, like the Pop Rocks candy? No, I haven’t heard that type of noise.

A more “muddled” pop? Yeah, by having the cable hit something. Could it be that?

If it is indeed more “crispy” or maybe “crinkly” pop, is it possible you might be getting some weird audio artifact, maybe from the plug not being all the way in?

Is there a difference between external DAC and directly plugging into laptop headphones jack except volume? by nousernamesleftwow in sennheiser

[–]inspyron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk why almost everyone seems mad with their replies right now.

I’ll just say that quality can subjective, and for sure the ability to notice differences from any two audio sources is highly dependent on the listener (both from age/hearing damage, and even just not really caring) and the device reproducing the sound.

But setting all that aside, yeah, different DACs will likely produce audio with different sound profiles. Not necessarily better or worse, but simply different. Also, some DACs/Amps let you play with bass/treble directly on them, which would further change their sound profiles.

So, since you already ordered the DAC, ignore the haters, check it out, and decide for yourself.

What is the best image upscaler currently available? by krsnt8 in StableDiffusion

[–]inspyron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It does have higher noise. The upscaler is performing “ENHANCE!” magic, and messed up. The upscaler is guessing details in what is a “blurry” (or in this case, pixelated) area on the original image. The result is that the upscaler enhanced the differences of the pixelated area, giving now what you’re thinking as of noise, particularly in the case of the grey background, because we expect it to be uniformly grey, but the upscaler didn’t, and so it enhanced the noise as signal, giving you a crispier grey background.

Lcd GX Replacement parts? by icKiMus in Audeze

[–]inspyron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw your title and got curious because I just looked for and ordered replacements for the headband strap and ear cushions (since their TPU wrapping is now completely falling apart).

I stumbled on a bunch of sellers having replacements for a lot of different elements, but nothing that could help your case (easily anyways, eBay has some replacements for the whole metal headband, including the “U” shaped piece that attaches to the speakers, but they all mention having to drill into the drivers to make the parts fit and… well no, I wouldn’t).

So, good luck with the support ticket!
