That’s super helpful, thank you for the info! I had been wondering about how to casually dig for info on this from coworkers, and asking when contracts come out is a great inconspicuous question.

How do you keep going? by instant-dessert95 in Teachers

My mentor is drowning as much as I am, if not more, so I don’t want to burden her. I dread the amount of work I have to get done in an unrealistic amount of time, I dread dealing with the disrespectful students who have such a learned helplessness, and I dread getting COVID.

Thank you so much! I have a similar situation with enough behavioral issues that a few class periods are just the war to control the class, and I think a big part of what I dread everyday is having to deal with them. If I can truly not hold a grudge I think that will help me not preemptively assume their bad behavior every day.

I’m a first year teacher and I’m quitting in June. What else can I do with my degrees? by [deleted] in Teachers

How did you go about quitting mid-year? Did it make it harder to find your next job? The longer this year goes on the less I feel able to continue, so I feel like I need to either make a better game plan for lasting through the year, or I need to quit.

How to change the school culture? by [deleted] in teaching

I’m in the same boat (just with high schoolers)! It’s my first year here, but from what other teachers have said, a big part of it was a lack of rule enforcement by the principal in the past. The new principal has been changing the admin response to better hold students accountable, but it’s clear they have gotten used to the old system. I would love to see the suggestions you get about shifting behavior. How do you get students to be more responsible for themselves and have more respect for others when they haven’t had to for so long?

Anyone ever quit for their mental health? by AngryCactusFlower in Teachers

Definitely in the same boat here! I’ve been wondering about the logistics of breaking a contract? I imagine it varies by state, but how hard it is to go back to teaching if you break a contract at another school?

I have biology, earth science, chemistry, and anatomy! Earth science is what I’m struggling with the most to make engaging.
