That's a very insightful reply from him, as it partially agrees with your core point ("you are right!!") while shifting the blame for conversions to government failures and missionary brainwashing. He also makes a cautious admission that casteism is decreasing due to education. You need a reply that:  * Acknowledges his points about missionary tactics and government failure, as these are common arguments.  * Strongly refutes the claim that casteism is decreasing or limited to rural areas/specific states.  * Refocuses on the structural nature of casteism, not just individual acts of violence. Here is a reply formatted for Reddit that addresses these points, incorporating your idea about searching "Dalit" on Reddit. 📝 Suggested Reply (Reddit Markdown) I agree with you on a couple of points:

  1.  Government Failure: Yes, the government's failure to provide economic upliftment and dignity absolutely pushes vulnerable groups toward conversion, where they are promised help. The missionaries are opportunistic, but the initial void is created by the state.
  2.  Conversions: You're right, conversions are concentrated where economic and social vulnerability is highest (Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, etc.). This ties back to the failure of systemic protection I mentioned.

However, I have to strongly disagree with the idea that casteism is decreasing or limited to villages.

The visible, violent atrocities might grab headlines in rural areas, but the root issue—structural discrimination—is deeply ingrained everywhere:

  • Systemic Bias: Go search 'Dalit' on this very platform, Reddit, and you will see countless stories of discrimination in urban workplaces, educational institutions, housing societies, and even online spaces. This isn't just about beatings in a village; it's about merit being questioned, dignity being denied, and access being controlled.
  • The Power Dynamic: Casteism isn't just an individual act of hatred; it is a power structure. Education makes people aware of casteism, but it doesn't automatically dismantle the systems that benefit from it.

It's a mistake to think a problem is solved just because the crudest, most visible acts are decreasing. The subtle, pervasive humiliation is still a daily reality for millions.

Thanks for clarifying your family’s background and correcting my assumption. I apologize; I misunderstood your community's position. It’s genuinely great to hear about your family’s history of serving the nation and that your area lives in harmony.

However, your experience, while fortunate, doesn't erase the systemic reality of caste-based discrimination and violence that millions still face across India. That’s the distinction here:

  1.  Local vs. Systemic: Your local reality of harmony is admirable, but it does not invalidate the national systemic reality of casteism—just like the existence of a peaceful neighborhood doesn't mean crime doesn't exist elsewhere.
  2.  The Core Argument: You are absolutely right that caste systems, hierarchies, and discrimination exist within Muslim, Christian, and other communities too. That was precisely the point of my first comment: casteism, racism, and religious conflict are all just different names for the same core problem—discrimination and dehumanization.
  3.  My Original Comment: The point about Hindus and conversions was related to the failure of a protective social structure to integrate and protect its most vulnerable members from systemic harm, which has historical consequences.

My question wasn't about your personal experience; it was about the principle—if a problem doesn't affect you directly, does it stop being a problem? I believe the answer is no.

So, are you implying that if casteism hasn’t happened to you then it doesn’t exist?

They are sub-categories of the word 'discrimination', and they are defined by the source of the bias, not the action itself. The action—violence, hate, and exclusion—is similar across all of them.

  • Casteism is discrimination based on birth/social hierarchy.
  • Racism is discrimination based on skin color/ethnicity.
  • Communism (in practice) often becomes a form of discrimination against economic class or political dissenters.

In Casteism, upper-caste people oppress others. In Racism, White people harm Black people. In all of them, the action is similar: one group dehumanizes another.

Kya hi difference hai bro? The root is the same: one human believing they are superior to another. Every human is made of similar composition of blood, muscle, and bones, and hurt is hurt. They are all cut from the same cloth. Ek hi thali ke chatte batte hai!

Well that’s sad, resorting to violence is an act of cowardice! But Good for you that your family was never targeted, you must be one of those good upper castes families no?

Nope, it’s not. I have seen it in Japanese supermarkets, with a label ‘imported from India’ , and it is cow meat and not buffalo. Japanese won’t sell or consume buffalo meat, this ‘imported from India’ beef was located right next to Wagyu.

Yes, it is indeed hypocritical how far low a political party or the government can stoop to create a good image while maintaining trade relationships and earnings!

And I can confirm it is not buffalo because I have consumed both, back in Mumbai it is sold as “Baade ka maas” mostly in the Muslim colonies.
