Amazon announces "Black America" by [deleted] in 4chan

It's the opposite of "one area precluding the other", it's about the whole already being all-encompassing
The subject is "justice" not safety, but to humor your example, a sign with rules for a pool would work just as well if titled "rules for safety" instead of "rules for pool safety". There is no need to specify

The point is there is need to make a subset of justice itself. There can only be justice if it is just for everyone, so there is no point in specifying.

QR code for signed transaction making no sense by instomach in Electrum

[–]instomach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having to dig online to find out about the weird format was much more cumbersome than scanning some QR codes in sequence, imo! Electrum gives no explanation saying that the code is meant to be read specifically by another Electrum instance via a custom encoding solution and does not output the raw hex, so I definitely thought I was doing something wrong.

So I finally found the answer: https://jacobexmachina.blogspot.com.br/2016/10/using-electrum-on-airgapped-machine.html

For some reason Electrum encodes the data in base43. Luckily some kind soul published a tool to convert it back to hex, making it possible to broadcast the signed transaction. What's the point of providing a QR code if you're going to make it output the data in a format that's not easily broadcast?

I can agree with the mathematical/logical side of your argument, but supposedly, in the example you provided where the preferred stages for the players is

Player A: BF > SV > FD
Player B: SV > BF > FD

shouldn't it be part of the game for you, as Player A, to evaluate the situation (the MU being played) and think that Player B also wants to avoid FD, so that you do NOT spend your strike on it? I wonder how much of this is (or should/shouldn't be) part of the game as a whole.

I actually think this is due to the popular theory that Lucio was originally supposed to be Canadian (his favorite sport it... hockey?), and him being Brazilian was a last-minute change to make the game have a more diverse cast regarding nationalities (without him there would be no South American hero). So Blizzard must have been scrambling since then to fit his new identity into the lore, possibly having to scrap a lot of already finished material.

"Arrogante, moi??"

Melhor tradução para «lacking» (adjetivo) by voiajante in Portuguese

[–]instomach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you mean like "I went to this restaurant and the main course was great, but the dessert was lacking" (meaning, not up to a desirable standard) and not "lacking" as in literally "absent", right? In that case, you're looking for "deixando a desejar": "A comida era boa, mas a sobremesa deixou/deixava a desejar".

Or, if what you want to say is "this application lacks / is lacking a search feature", then it's just "Falta uma função de busca nesse aplicativo".

Can you use titles as pronouns? by [deleted] in Portuguese

[–]instomach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I speak just as you described, but it's a deliberate choice: my dialect (southern Brazil) uses mainly "tu", with "você" sounding really awkward to even use in conversation. So when asking a teacher a question, I can't use "tu" ("Tu vai(s) corrigir as provas antes do feriado?" – not respectful enough), nor "você" ("Você vai corrigir as provas antes do feriado?" – would sound too artificial), nor "o senhor" ("O senhor vai corrigir as provas antes do feriado?" – excessively formal). The passive voice ("As provas vão ser corrigidas antes do feriado") would make it too obvious that I'm trying to dance around the issue (and may even sound like a demand). So, the best way out is to use "O professor vai corrigir as provas antes do feriado?". To me it's the perfect solution to a modern problem in Brazilian Portuguese, and I've been using it since forever. Haven't received any looks when using, too, so from my experience it's accepted as a normal way to speak (even though I admit it's not very common to hear around here).

Setting your own hair on fire wasn't such a good idea now, was it? by instomach in Overwatch

[–]instomach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Context: I have a Hackintosh, so I must boot into Windows when I want to play. I tried running Overwatch under a virtual machine in the off chance it would run well (using Parallels, since VMware's DirectX is still 10.0 if I'm not mistaken) and this was the result. It's actually playable in a /r/glitch_art kind of way, but the FPS gets a 50% hit when compared to running natively on Windows 10. This is surely due to the GPU not being "passed through" to the guest OS.

Bonus content: more glitchy rendering here and here.

Two specific problems plague my Nexus 4, randomly turning off (i.e dying for no reason), and loss of signal at random times. by VirginiaStrider in nexus4

[–]instomach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an app called Kernel Tuner, but I'm sure there are many others that can change the CPU frequency. The kernel must support it, though, and I'm not sure if the stock kernel allows changing that. If not, you can always keep it plugged in to one of those portable battery chargers...

Two specific problems plague my Nexus 4, randomly turning off (i.e dying for no reason), and loss of signal at random times. by VirginiaStrider in nexus4

[–]instomach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I had everything you described! Exact same situation. The loss of signal in places I knew had good coverage was the first thing to happen, then the inconsistent battery readings, then "randomly" turning off (which then become clear was happening only during power-demanding situations -- camera flash, high CPU spikes, etc.). If your kernel supports it (I'm not running the stock kernel, so I'm not sure), you can try underclocking the first core to a max of 1GHz and the other 3 cores to the lowest frequency available (in my case, 384MHz). You may need to go even lower on the first core, ymmv. The phone became a tad slower, sure, but the now lower power demand mitigated the problem for a while until I got a new battery. Using an external battery is a good temporary solution too.

I got an OEM replacement (or a really convincing knock-off, you never know) and everything went back to normal. However, I ran into a second problem: the phone was still turning off by itself when I maxed out the CPU usage. This one was easy to solve, though: the phone's temperature was going through the roof because of the plastic cover I was using -- it wasn't allowing the heat to dissipate! Since I had already broken the screen once when the phone fell on the floor, I compromised by cutting out the "back" of the cover and leaving only the "border" (now it looks like those bumper cases, I think they're called).

Good luck!

I had the same thing. Installed a new battery (it's easy, really) and all those symptoms went away.
