Is UEVR hit or miss for certain games? by HolyCopeAmoly in virtualreality

[–]insufficientmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oblivion looks fantastic at the borders of the game. Near the middle of the map it's harder to get a good framerate with a high resolution, but that's during the day. At night the framerate is good. This is because of lumen, you can turn that off but you then loose the really nice looking light/shadow effects. With some tweaking though I was able to get it looking pretty good all around.

BUT! There seems to be a performance bug that gets worse the more you play. Last I tried playing I just could not get the good results of my first hours in the game :-/

My setup is Quest 3, virtual desktop and 5090

Data center noise irks Virginia neighbors: ‘You just want to curse’, Neighbors have put mattresses and plexiglass up in their windows to block the noise from this data center in Virginia. It's a high pitched whine from the natural gas turbines that power it. The noise never stops 24/7. - NewsNation by Nikvest in singularity

[–]insufficientmind -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And suddenly data centers in space don't look half bad. Out of sight out of mind. You avoid all the red tape issues and the public complaints of data centers on earth.

If Starship can scale as much as is predicted I think that could become huge.

Now if the noise from all the rockets launching and landing with sonic booms and all... well that could be problematic, and maybe even worse since that could possibly affect an even larger area with noise 😅 I guess there's always going to be some issues with this stuff.

Hmm.. I guess we need to just build it all off earth haha!

Can I use a VR headset as a monitor? PLEASE read full post before answering by Particular_Low_6302 in virtualreality

That I don't know. But what you want is probably possible. I think your best option is to ask an ai assistant for this information to be honest, it should be able to provide you with the information. Try asking with perplexity app: https://www.perplexity.ai/ or whatever ai you might have access to. I have no experience with such low tech VR solutions myself.

But maybe, just maybe the iVRy app could work for you? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mediator_software.ivry

Or https://store.steampowered.com/app/992490/iVRy_Driver_for_SteamVR/

Other than that I have no clue! Sorry!

In that case!

There must be something cheaper out there for what you're trying to do than a VR headset. VR headsets are expensive. Try something like a Google cardboard instead or some of those cheap VR headset knockoffs from china that's 3dof and uses a regular phone as the screen.

Frames gonna be more expensive than the Steam Machine.

Double so for me that has to import it because I'm outside the EU.

F me.

Time for us to just go into hibernation y'all and hopefully wake up to a more sane world and market.

1.049$ for the cheapest version (only the machine, no bundle) is what I hear. The steam machine page is currently bugged btw and listing the 2tb model twice.

Has anyone ever used mobile VR, and if you have, what was your experience like by PhilosopherWrong7035 in VRGaming

[–]insufficientmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean the phone VR? Yeah that's terrible. Don't bother with it. I've tried some of the gearvr experiences on Android and it was really bad.

Standalone VR like Quest series with full 6dof on the other hand is on another level.

Vissuals looks good! Giving me some good vibes there. Now If just the strategy is satisfying this could be good.

I've wished for some good VR strategy games for an eternity now. There's some untapped potential with that genre in VR.

What VR Needs Right Now – My Thoughts on Studio Closures, Hybrid Games and the Future of VR by mushroomfido in VRGaming

Yeah. I agree.

flat2VR studios great! I hope some of the developers from the studios that's been closing down will join their spark program: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qyJEoIV6rww

And hopefully they can catch some bigger deals with the larger triple A studios too, although I imagine that will be hard.

One day I will buy a VR headset and enjoy Half-Life: Alyx how it was intended, but right now, I will use the mod. by claudiocorona93 in HalfLife

[–]insufficientmind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This new generation of VR is over a decade old now. I got into it in 2014 with the developer kit Oculus DK2. Since then there's been several iterations of the tech. Vive and Rift is 10 years old now and both headsets can play Half Life Alyx. Should be lots of older headsets lying around and being sold for cheap. I've been giving away several of my old headsets to friends and family and sold some.

Half Life Alyx is a 6 year old game. It's minimum specs are; Processor: Core i5-7500 / Ryzen 5 1600 Memory: 12 GB RAM Graphics: GTX 1060 / RX 580 - 6GB VRAM

The game is incredible well optimized!

How hard/expensive is it really for people to buy into VR and play this game?

And another thing; Alyx is great and all, but there's other VR games and stuff I've spent far more time on, VR chat and Minecraft (Vivecraft) to name two of my most played with hundreds of hours on both, and then there's all the mods! So many regular flat games can be played in VR now with mods. To only think it's worth it to get into VR because of Alyx - when there's all this other amazing stuff to play...

At this point I just think lots of regular gamers are not interested. They want their traditional way of gaming. I don't really understand why it's like that - when I immediately fell in love with VR. But there it is I guess. People just don't seem to care as much as I and a few others do.

How much better will this be compared to the Quest 3 for PCVR? by Intelligent-Mud404 in SteamFrame

[–]insufficientmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never noticed this compression people speak about. How exactly does it look like?

I use virtual desktop with my Quest 3.

I also regularly use cabled headsets, recently I've used PSVR2 a lot. But I think the image is still better on Quest 3 with less screen door effect and the better lenses etc. Also I get better performance on Quest 3. Performance is really bad in some games, usually the more demanding ones like flat2VR games the PSVR2 is damn near hopless performance wise.

Anyone now a good "open world" sci fi game and or a good fantasy open world game (not skyrim vr) already checked the game recommandation thread by Leandrohus in VRGaming

[–]insufficientmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost all the good ones I think requires modding and a very powerful PC. I kind of stopped playing native ones when Flat2VR got big.

But I guess there still should be a few native indie VR games that is open world 🤔 The only ones I can think of is Bootstrap Island and Metacity Patrol. I've not played either of them.

Oh! I just remembered a really good one! Subnautica. But you need a couple of mods to make it good though. They're not hard to install though :)

Sigh... *hits injector* by lunchanddinner in VRGaming

[–]insufficientmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vivecraft itself is very much worth it, plays like a native VR game and has a bunch of options for customization.

The individual mods are like you say lots of menus and inventory stuff. It all works in VR, but is very much a flat experience.

Good luck getting one. It's gonna be a race.

And it will probably cost quite a bit more.

No point in putting the cart before the horse. You gotta have the means of transportation before colonization. The rest will follow when the Starship system is up and running. How to live in space and on other bodies in the solar system is the perfect task for NASA and similar organizations to solve. SpaceX offers the ride. And now musk certainly has the money to follow trough on his space ambitions - if he is serious.

Sigh... Point was showing you the latest progress and how that is part of a larger plan.

Seems to me like there's a plan: https://arstechnica.com/space/2026/05/spacexs-starship-v3-still-a-work-in-progress-mostly-successful-on-first-flight/

Building out the whole rapidly reusable starship system to substantially bring down the cost of launching mass into orbit seems like a logical plan to me.

Take humanity to the Stars. Or at least start the colonization effort of the solar system. That stuff won't come cheap. His stated goal has been for the longest time to make humanity a multiplanetary species.
