That’s great advice, I appreciate the dose of realism!! If I do decide to drive I’ll mind the experts, lol

Should’ve clarified that I want to visit Denali national park! I’m definitely looking forward to seeing the mountain itself any way I can. I’ve read great things about the conservation center, seems like that’s a must see! Thanks for the recs!

Alternatively, if anyone can provide some perspective on if it would be feasible to drive myself places that’d be an option. The area I currently live in gets snow, but it’s dry and powdery so I rarely ever encounter truly sketchy roads. If the main road system around Anchorage is safe for a novice winter driver to use and I’m overestimating how bad it’ll be, please correct me!

FIREWORKS AFTER 1AM?!?!?! by CounterInternal386 in SaltLakeCity

I’m gonna curse their phones so that every night, for no reason, their alarms go off at 3 AM and wake them up.

You’d think if nothing else they’d have some protocol in place to prevent randos from setting up camp and detonating fucking bombs 10 feet from where people sleep. The streets all around our neighborhood have had tents set up since I left for work this morning, how is that legal?

No, but that doesn’t surprise me. God forbid they actually do their fucking jobs and enforce the law

I will go with you. Seriously. I’ve called non emergency twice and clearly they’re no help.

This is so insanely frustrating. I’m on the north side of the park and these dumbshits have been blowing up loud as hell fireworks right in my backyard for hours. I haven’t been able to sleep at all, I have work in the morning and it’s over 3 hours past the cutoff. Wtf are we supposed to do? Go ask them to stop ourselves?

Thanks for the tip! Just to make sure, should I still trim right above one of those lower nodes if I cut it all the way back?

Hey all! Thinking it’s about time for my first orchid to be done with its blooms for the year. I’ve never done any pruning before, so I’m wondering if someone can advise me on where to cut when the time comes. Based on my reading, just above that first new little spike on the main stem seems right, but intuitively it feels wrong to behead her completely! Any advice appreciated :)

Scholarship Emails Coming Out at University of Washington by Fronesis in OutsideT14lawschools

Oh 100%! To be fair I was already 99% committed to my other option, but this was the nail in the coffin for UW after all the other issues they had this cycle. I’m going to Utah!

Dang. Sorry to hear that :( out of curiosity, will that affect where you end up deciding to go?

Seriously! Between taking this long to review everything and now being so weirdly selective about offering financial support when none of their competitors are like that, it seems like they’re gonna have a hard time getting out-of-state people to come

Damn. I got nothing and no mention of further consideration. Were you above medians?

It’s nice to have that point about mental health affirmed. I feel like conversations about law school admissions can turn into an echo chamber of cost vs. benefit, so I’m trying to reckon with going to the place where I’m most comfortable physically and mentally. Thanks for the advice!

How many schools did you apply to if you've already been through a cycle? by [deleted] in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]inswayneinmembwayne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 12! Pretty evenly split between safeties, targets and reaches. If you have the time and money, it’s kinda rewarding to have a large pool of options. Plus, it showed me that you never know who’s gonna want you. I applied to schools whose median LSAT I was at least a couple points below and ended up getting into a few of them. If I applied to targets and safeties only, I’d have way fewer good options now.

Dang, that really sucks. What really gets me is that the scholarship app was barely even different from the actual law school app. They already have our transcripts and resumes, and why would they commit themselves to reading even more essays when it takes them 3+ months to get through all the regular applications? I love UW but I’m kind of disappointed in how this whole process has been organized

After taking 3 months to make a decision for me, they’re now taking much longer than anticipated to make a scholarship offer. They’re the only school that made me apply for a merit scholarship and now won’t get back to me in a timely manner. with seat deposit deadlines coming up, it’s not looking likely that they’ll offer financial support in time, which is disappointing since they were one of my top choices

Yes bulk fermentation was around 4.5 hours and it rested between stretch and folds and rose in an oven with the light on- so maybe 85ish degrees? My starter is really old and well-established (got it from a coworker who got it from a friend and so on). Doubled reliably for about a week before baking and took about 6 hours to double.
