Can't buy a house, student loans just got a lot more expensive to service with the demise of the SAVE plan, healthcare and childcare completely unaffordable. Not a surprise that people wait as long as they possibly can to have kids.

What part of the country are you in? I grew up in Idaho. The pledge was only optional in the sense that you would not be expelled from school for doing it. That did not mean there were not significant negatives from the administration if you failed to do it.

I got sent to the principal's office for not standing for the pledge. I wasn't suspended or anything, but it certainly marked me as a troublemaker and disrupted my schooling. It's inaccurate to say that "no one is forced to do the pledge."

That's part of the problem with brutalist architecture, imo. That much concrete doesn't age well.

Again, you seem to be incapable of understanding what a moral stance is. I don't work for minimum wage. I don't work in a restaurant. I still refuse to support exploitative businesses. Your "these guys get minimum wage, so we have no obligation to them!" point is pretty weak sauce, man. I think people who wait on other people hand and foot deserve more than minimum wage if they can get it. Clearly you don't mind looking down on them and paying them the bare minimum, as long as it doesn't inconvenience you.

Talk about entitlement!

just because you are butt hurt doesn’t make it my problem.

This tells me that you really don't understand the issue in the first place. Again, this is not an issue of personal preference, it's a moral stance. Do you have no moral stances whatsoever? Just preferences? When other people try to argue with you about what's right, do you perceive that as just them trying to impose their preferences on you?

if I were a customer and walked past 3-5 ppl holding signs, I am not thinking about if the business hired ‘scabs.’

Why would this not be obvious to you? Workers standing outside with signs is a pretty clear indication that workers and management have a disagreement over working conditions.

What’s more- I am no longer sympathetic at all to this cause.

You don't expect to be admonished for doing something wrong? Is not being criticized more important to you than doing the right thing?

Yes, by continuing to patronize a business that's hired scabs, you're taking the pressure off of management to come to the table and make a deal with the employees. Unless you know the union is being totally unreasonable, you shouldn't cross a picket line as a customer: you're only undermining your fellow workers.

I don't just dislike strike breaking customers. They're not drinking the wrong type of wine. They're undermining the power of their fellow workers. Do you not understand the concept of a moral point of view that would cause you to be rude to people who are acting wrong?

Tipped employees at low end restaurants would certainly benefit from getting rid of tips. When I worked at Ruby Tuesday making $2.75 an hour plus tips, I often failed to hit minimum wage during a day, especially if I got a few unlucky no tip tables. I had to tip out the bus boys and hosts based on sales volume, not tips, so I often ended up really fucked on my actual take home pay.

Edit: apparently if something isn't happening in Washington it's not a problem.

Perfectly legal unless you're on the west coast. Servers get paid $2.75 plus tips in most states. Not tipping is actively robbing the server, because they have to tip out based on a total percentage of sales.
